I always answer my phone, unless I am talking to someone else. One of the reasons I get to work from home. Just make it sound like you are in a strip club and tell them you are on vacation and are at an amusement park. LOL.

Rick V 09-23-2015 01:37 PM

I make sure to always have the bosses cell number, home number and work number programmed into my phone, Ya have gotta know what numbers to ignore.

GH85Carrera 09-23-2015 02:22 PM

One of the many things about liking my job and working with nice competent people,we will talk to each other at any time day or night and on weekends, holidays, & on vacation.

We admit to weirdness.

He is 12 lbs and has huge feet so I think he is gonna be catching up to the other one.

RKDinOKC 09-23-2015 07:04 PM

Mine was 12 lbs and just under a year old when he was re-homed. His mommy and daddy were both over 25 lbs. Figured he was going to get as big as my Golden Retriever. That's why I wanted to toilet train him, his cat box would have to be the size of a bath tub and I would be getting litter delivered by the truck load.

Mechanic got the pistons out today. He is going to check tomorrow to make sure the cylinders, pistons etc are all within spec to go back in with just rings. I was surprised how clean and free the rings were.

The pistons are missing two different oil relief holes. The holes in the oil scraper ring groove are not drilled thru to connect to the inside of the piston to let the oil out of the groove that is being scraped off the cylinder walls. The are also holes in the piston skirt below where the wrist pins go that let the oil from the wrist pins out (there is a Porsche tech bulletin on drilling these).

The crank and rod bearings look good, mechanic wants to replace them anyway, since they are fairly cheap and it's apart with 70k on it.

There was quite a bit of carbon on the tops of the pistons for only 2k miles since they were cleaned. Mechanic says I need to switch to a better oil because there is quite a bit of soot in the crank and heads. Hard to say since there was so much blow by and oil burning.

Morning Y'all
Yeah do the bearings, when I have a job like this I don't even recommend it I just add it to the build. I inform the customer I am doing it. To me it is like changing oil, you are getting a filter too.
So are you drilling holes or replacing the pistons? One will save you labor but increase parts cost, the other will save parts but increase labor.

GH85Carrera 09-24-2015 04:25 AM

That same shop does you oil changes doesn't it? They should know what oil was in it.

I can't imagine opening up a engine like that and NOT replacing the bearings. It if was an air cooled VW engine that is different. Just a simple thing to R&R the crank bearing on those.

Good Thursday morning folks.

Day three of new kitty and we have a shift in the power balance here at the house. New kitty and monster kitty have decided they like each other and are hanging out together. This could be bad news for the girls.

What happens next will depend on whether the bores and pistons are still in spec. I am assuming they will be...if so will drill the holes, rings and bearings. That's what the 928 engine builder guru expects for the miles and oil usage.

Yep, they put in Pennzoil and I been topping up with Royal Purple. There has been enough blow by that the oil goes black after the first tank of gas after oil change so don't think the oil brand mattered much.

Some of the 928 guys have been replacing the smog air pump with a vacuum pump with an oil catch can and putting 3 to 6 psi of vacuum on the sump which they claim stops oil usage. I prefer fixing the cause before applying duct tape.

morning all. day three of forced 911 driving. almost lost it this am. traffic slowing some azz-hat decides the space in front of me is his and takes it traffic then stops, almost got him.....

GH85Carrera 09-24-2015 06:04 AM

Wow, just one tank of gas.

I guess you knew you had a real problem or you would not have had the engine rebuilt. Back when my original 305 had 300,000 miles I could drive a 1,000 miles before the oil was dark. I had oil burn and I know I had blow-by because the PCV valve and crank vent would get oily. It was getting tired. It had oil leaks from almost everywhere. The heads never once came off until I was taking it apart to scrap it.

With only 39,000 on the 350 it goes 2,000 miles before the oil starts to gets dark.

Oh great, all heck has broken loose.

Our internal (on-site) Exchange server stopped being able to send messages to our Online Exchange server. That has effectively shut down many mission critical operations as they rely on email distribution to the On-line server.

Turns out our IP block has been blocked by the on-line spam filters because of some messing around the network guy is doing with the routing rules on the router/firewall.

Yeah, moving everything to the cloud was such a great idea.

ARRRRGH!

RKDinOKC 09-24-2015 03:54 PM

Welp...microsoft is still blocking our internal on-site mail server. They supposedly have techs working on the problem. I Put the internal mail server on a different public IP and got it working. But don't know for how long.

At the employee meetings today they had the retirement for my brother. They played a video that was lots of employees and even people from the local Chick-fil-a and Starbucks saying what a great guy he was and wished him well in his retirement.

They also announced a new program that made the local news. If you have worked full time for at least a year and want to quit and try something else, they will gift you $5000, and 2 months of continued health insurance and you will be give priority if you want to come back when the company starts hiring again

They also announced a BYOC campaign. BYOC is Bring Your Own Cup. The styrofoam cups are 4¢ each.

I may submit a suggestion for a coffee tip jar for those that drink coffee to contribute to the coffee fund. When the company was much smaller they had a coffee tip jar and also stocked their own soda and candy machines. At some point in the summer they would host a weekend fishing trip at Lake Texoma. The profits from the commissary paid for lunch on Saturday, and all the fixins, minus fish for a big fish fry Saturday Evening. It also provided prizes for biggest fish, and most fish caught.

My Dad worked there back then and until he retired he always took a big thermos of his own coffee every day. Even long after the tip jar disappeared and they had a service take over the snack machines and provided free coffee.
