Night Sid. I'd gladly pay for someone else to paint, it's got to one of the worlds worst jobs.

Morning Y'all,
Sorry about your friend G.
Well it has become the silly season here, Two fatal shootings this week. Both in the "projects" that are known to be a heavy drug traffic area.
The people who live there are screaming on the news that the police are not doing enough to clean up their community, really? Do it yourself and stop relying on the police to do what you let get out of hand in the first place.
My little neighborhood is a quiet safe place and it ain't cause 5-0 keeps it clean

Oh man, so sorry to hear about the dog, condolences to all involved. It's always tough.

Had to put my 13 yo Golden, Camber down earlier this year. She got an inoperable tumor that robbed her of her mobility. Had such a devastating effect on my Mom with Alzheimer's I took Mom the next day and got an 8 week old Golden puppy, Pepper. Mom really perked up over the puppy, more alert and happier than she had been in years. But with the complications of Alzheimer's from traumatic events she followed Camber to rest a month later despite the new puppy.

Saying I miss them both is an understatement. But am filling the hole with the joy of my new buddy Pepper. She will be a whole year old on Dec 12th. We are working on her becoming a leash free dog like my first Golden was.

The neighborhood we moved away from would have been better to have a meth lab. Instead, we had a crack house across the street. I think the house was haunted or possessed because 3 different families after living there became drug dealers and it was going on converting the fourth from normal to crack dealers when we moved away.

It was interesting to watch slowly happen. At first they would be a normal clean cut couple keeping the house all nice and clean. Then they would start yelling and screaming at each other obviously having marital problems even with the police showing up. Then the guy would disappear (not even show up for kids). Then another druggy lookin dude would move in with the chick. Then it would turn into a trashed out crack house. Then they would get popped and the house would sell, then it would start over with the next owners.

The first went to cocaine instead of crack. Crack wasn't the thing yet. She and her new guy moved to a nicer area, but left her daughter there. The daughter got married and became the second victim of the cycle. Divorce, new guy, drugs, go away.

We had a guy who moved in across the street a few years ago that had gotten a little talking to. He was the nephew of the crazy hippy lady who has moved away. He started out just moving some weed and that sent the radar up, then he decided to expand his operation. We didn't call the law we went over and told him to stop or die, he opted to move back to the beach area where he came from.
There are a couple of us in this neighborhood who "handle" the situations that the law can't handle because of laws and such. All the elderly here love us.

Sorry to hear about your mom, Richard.
I think a dogfriend can indeed soften the loss.

I'm guessing our friend won't be long without a dog.
Not to replace Hemmy, but to fill the void, like you mentioned.

Our neighbourhood is pretty mellow too, but one starts to wonder how long that will last...
Good ol' Belgium is looking at scary times, i reckon...
Time for a spoon or two, just in case.

I was never a fan of legal carry for everybody.
Too many are too stupid to be allowed to carry, but man, a few spoons on the civilian side during the attacks in Paris could have made a difference... I can't help but wonder.
What if an upright citizen saw the attacks from his appartement window and had a gun nearby.
I would go bang bang on the terrorists from my third floor appartment for sure.
Get five rounds down before the even get to look up and see where the lead is coming from.
Imagine 15 civilians doing the same...

Looks like they are trying to remove the gun laws you do have G. Stijn has been keeping me in the loop as to the new restrictions they are trying to put in place as a knee jerk reaction .

I am not aware of that.
Hopefully they will exclude known drugusers, people with criminal records...
I am in favor of very strict background checks, except for those that exclude me...

I saw in the spoon thread that Stijn is getting serious about his longspoons.
Very nice collection he has!

Before they actually started dealing out of the house the guy would make a big deal of carrying lots of guns in and out of the house to and from his car. Once the guy even pulled a gun on a little girl fetching her ball from his back yard. Pretty much met the neighbors and answered his door gun in hand. None of the neighbors including myself had the balls to take him out. Especially since it looked like there would be revenge from his group.

Think it's pretty easy to clear the background and show up unregistered. Stick or automatic, only takes money. All that restricted access only makes more paper work for the registered ticket holders.

Good morning everyone.

G-man remember the GIF you made of my dog.

Sorry to say she and her best friend had to be put down from complications of old age. We lost both of them within a month. They were replaced with new dachshunds. It is a shame dogs lives such short lives.

Oh yeah...

Good Morning and Happy Hump Friday!

I've got enough vacation to take off for vacation the rest of the year. Would be nice if they paid you for the vacation you didn't use.

When my friend was working at Apple, after 7 years you were forced to take off for a full contiguous month. It was called a sabbatical. And you could cash in any accrued vacation to have extra monies. If you didn't take your sabbatical by Thanksgiving of you seventh year, you weren't allowed in the Apple building until January 2nd of the next year. They would actually have security remove you from the premises. They claimed it was to help prevent job burn out. Apple has since stopped that practice.

My friend started his sabbatical right after a speaking engagement in London and toured Europe. His airfare to Europe and back was also paid for by his Apple expense account. He got robbed in Budapest they made him suck a bunch of money out of an ATM and took his souvenir fancy Swiss watch.

Good Mid-Friday to all you lucky ones. I know some people have to go back to work on Friday. (I don't)

Good to hear from you G. You were off and married before I got through all the posts to start posting myself.

Sounds like Thanksgiving is pretty much set for everyone.

We will sneak outta here a bit early today. No work on Friday.

Now that my parents are dead Thanksgiving has been reduced to my wife and her mother. This year we are invited to one of my wife's nephew's new house. Instead of a nice quiet meal with three of us it will be a packed house with little kids and noise. The worst news is no turkey! Just ham and other tons of food but no turkey.

I think I heard 15 folks total and 6 or 8 kids. I will have to wear my Grumpy t-shirt.

Get a turkey from Richard and take it. How can they not have turkey?

Maybe you can do with the kids like we used to.

Before our annual thanksgiving group got smaller we always rented one of the large buildings at the fairgrounds in Mineral Point. It had a partition so 2/3rds of the building was sectioned off for the kids to go play. We used to play full 11 on 11 touch football there or race our R/C cars.

My cousin owns a restaurant in Dodgeville and we use that so we have enough seats for everyone. I do miss the 4 8' long banquet tables full of dessert. I think we are down to about 12' total desserts now. We will have our own dinner on the weekend sometime.

As long as it is not a vegan Thanksgiving I can figure out something to eat. Ham is a good substitute.

I am not that much of a ham lover. I can eat it but it isn't something I would buy myself.
