Good morning everyone.
Dang it is 59 degrees outside. Fall has arrived for a couple of days. It is supposed to be back in the 80s soon. Our big charity car show is on Saturday. We started doing it a long time ago, about 2002 or maybe a little earlier. The core group that did it back then (except me) has moved on and a new group is doing it now. We were approached by the Mercedes club two years ago to let them join in. We agreed happily. The Mercedes club used to do a car show with the Jaguar club. The Jag club is serious about a car show and it was a full on concours and the Mercedes guys saw we were laid back and just chatting and did not care if there was a bug on the windshield. The Jag-Mercedes show was always in the spring. Our was in the fall. They kept having huge rain delays and we kept having a string of perfect weather for the event. Spring in Oklahoma is often mega thunderstorms. They happen in the fall, but not that often. It looks like good weather for Saturday. Our little tiny PCA region has given over 25K to different charities in the last 15 years. I don't even know how much the MBCA region gave them last year. The Mercedes club loved the idea of a charity event. |
morning all. The last good weather day here and where am I? At work like a fool. I think I feel sick.....LOL

Better take the rest of the day to keep from coming down with the Flu.

I wish but there is a bunch of drawings to get done.

One of the things I really like about working from home is the totally flexible hours for the most part. If it's a nice day, I can take off and postpone project work until night time. But it is a good thing I can manage most server stuff from my iPhone in case I get caught out with something that needs massaged.

I can work from home with the company issued laptop (POS). But its a pain you have to check out lic for everything you think you want to use.

Working from home has advantages and disadvantages. It is nice to wear a t-shirt and shorts. Wait, I did that for the last 12 years. One disadvantage is that on Laundry Thursday (today) Mrs Carrera seems to think I should help her hang up the clothes and make the bed and such. Being "at work" is different.

there is also that. kids that want things, pets that want out or to be played with. At least here I can be left alone to post on PP

Glen, good luck with the new switch. I have an old "retired" HP from work. It is a 24 port gig unit but it does not have PoE so we had to retire it wiht the phones and wireless needing PoE.
Richard, I would have been suspicious of the number but I see Jim posted he was back in the USA, but that may have only been to cover his butt. I am with David, I could work from home but I don't know if I would get as much work done. Most of my work is done remotely on the servers anyway. |
I'm actually back in the USA, Brent. More specifically, I'm back in the OC, enjoying the sea breeze. :D
Good morning, y'all! |
did you enjoy the trip? No pictures?

Remote work on servers is how I work from home...or actually anywhere with internet and/or cell service, they don't have to know.
As I saw I was getting interrupted a lot taking care of Mom while working at home. So I used a time tracker app. Had a menu bar feature so I could turn it on when I sat down to work, and off before I got up to do something else. Kept track in case the overseers questioned the time I spent. Turned out I actually got more work done because there was less time spent on Mom, Dog, etc interruptions than co-worker interruptions, especially with all their meetings! The trouble I had was spending too much time on work. Got pretty good at seeing just how little time interruptions eat. Then they started using 5pm to track how much time is spent on what kind of job for costing. I have several categories my tasks fall into so at the end of a day I divy up a guesstimate of how much time was spent in each category. Because of that I quit using the time tracker, seemed like doing double work for the same thing. Glad they implemented 5pm instead of something that you have to clock on/off of tasks. But that would have been just like using the time tracker thing. |
Yeah, the person in question probably didn't actually go sailing anywhere near that place mentioned, that was just the cover story.
The names were changed to protect the innocent. |
I have been asked by higher ups to come in and babysit a couple of the virtual machines hwen they were having issues. I was thinking of Princess Bride. "I do not think it work like you think it works."
My boss said clear it with her first so she could explain why it wasn't happening. I remember once our old Director of Nursing insisted I come in to fix the old clinical server. I said OK, but it will take 40 minutes longer if I do. These are people that have access to some stuff via VPN themselves but I wasn't surprised they didn't put 2 and 2 together. Of course we had one email us to say the email server was down and was very proud of being proactive in helping out. Of course we knew about it before she did. We had a huge security roll-up that we had to roll back. With all the rolling around we forgot to announce that it was down for maintenance. Should have been a 5 minute update and reboot had it not been a Microsoft product. |
Since today was 9/28 called about my car. It is still at the detailers. 8 weeks? must be doing a frame off detail!
|
WTF, over!
