Back to Monday Morning.
It is a bountiful beautiful Monday and a have lots to do. |
Morning all. Got all the stuff out of storage this weekend, It was either given to us kids , tossed or donated. Now I don't have that bill coming in. Sunny on Saturday till late afternoon and I had no time to get the 911 out to play.
|
Rain here today. Maybe all day. Might be sunny and 75* tomorrow.
I vinyl wrapped the side panels on the bike over the weekend. The visible parts turned out OK but there are some complex 90* corners where it tucks in. Found a nice color to wrap the Cobra in. 3M 1080 Wicked. Have to do the headlight bucket on the bike and that wrapping is done. It is a 1985 so blemishes don't bother me, but all the black was pealing off and one side replacement panels were twice the price of the vinyl to do the whole bike. |
It’s 58 and raining. Weather Channel says 0% chance of rain. I guess I’m going to spend today working in the garage on the Z.
|
At least you have a project for a rainy day.
Most of our current projects require no rain since they are outside. |
Golly, what fun. Maybe someday when I grow up I can be an accountant!
I just spent several hours beating on QuickBooks to balance the cred card statement and make if spit out a report that shows what was spent to do what projects. I can understand that a good accountant makes a decent living. I think I would rather be a bouncer at a brothel than do that type of work for a living. Wait, I was just doing that work as part of my job. Hmmmm. Well tomorrow at least I will be up flying back and forth over a paying customer's project making pretty pictures. |
When was manager of Drafting & Graphic Arts one of my guy was a twin. His twin actually was a bouncer. And for a nudie bar. Lots and lots of stories. He went to the lake a lot, has a boat and jet skis. The twin goes too and brings the "giris." The brother that works for me is married. They met at a ZZTop concert.
She says she doesn't care, he can look as much as he wants as long as he comes home for dinner. |
Okay,
I give up. Anybody want to buy a Durametric Enthusiast Kit. Could not get it to talk to my Cayenne Turbo. Called durametric support. First they blamed it on me using Fusion virtual PC on my Mac. After after buying a PC they had me unplug some fuses in the car and plug them back in. The car then proceeded to throw more errors on the dash. Now the dash display of info like miles to empty quit working. Of course, they blamed it on the laptop even though it met their minimum requirements. It looked like it was going to work when used Glen's laptop so bought a PC laptop. It also looked like it was going to work, but would not set any settings or reset any error codes. Everything else I've tried that needs a PC works fine using the Fusion virtual PC. Installed custom engine maps for better performance and gas mileage on the CayenneS with Fusion. Think there is something wonky with my Cayenne Turbo. Returning the PC Laptop this morning. The Durametric Enthusiast kit allows use with 3 cars recording the vin numbers. It is basically a cable that you connect your laptop USB to the ODBII port on the car. The cable keeps track of the vin numbers. It does not show any vin numbers associated with the cable. You download their software to install on your laptop. No vin numbers are recorded on this kit. Paid $247 new from Durametric. |
We survived Monday.
Back to the skies for me today. The airplane we rent is a 1973 model Cessna 172. It has some updated instruments and ADSB which is nice. It only has one window that opens. The window on the left opens up a little, unless I that the retaining pin out of the hinge. Then it opes all the way up. On the ground it has to be held open, once airborne the wind holds it up against the wing. I have to sit one the left because I shoot obliques as well as the vertical stuff from the camera system. |
Glen, do you earn frequent flyer miles?
I’m almost done removing the tar sound deadening the the Z’s cabin. After that, I need to get rid of the surface rust and prime/paint. I sleep well at night after spending hours each day scraping out that tar crap. |
Nope, I pay for frequent miles.
Between the pilot and the airplane it is an expensive afternoon. Of course I do mark my participation up even more. The client gets a nice invoice and a FTP folder with files uploaded to their site. |
Morning all. Yep Monday is a done deal.
|
Well so far Tuesday sucks just as bad. I wish people would not make IT decisions until they understand IT.
|
you should put them on a network of their own. One where they can only communicate with their trash can.
|
Someone from another company printed confidential information to one of our residents wireless printer. Somehow it became my job to make sure it doesn't happen again but we couldn't invite anyone from the company that did it to the meeting.
|
OK, out IT tech just had this conversation. Keep in mind we have Windows 7 Pro on our domain and we have gone over this multiple times.
I can't get the flash drive to work. It says no access. What login are you using? The training one. Well the training login doesn't allow the use of flash drives, you have to use your own login. We tried that but when we do someone forgets to log out and no one else can use the computer. (forehead slap) You can imagine the conversation from there. I hate my job some days. |
Know what you mean.
The other server admin turned off a transport rule that stops phishing using a kimray email address. within 30 minutes we received and phishing email with malware that sent malware to 70 other users in the company. Oh that new anit-spam filter is going to stop all that so we don't need your rule Richard. What the heck do I know setting up a rule like that, I've only been managing anti-spam for 28 years! |
I want to know how people that have been using computers for years don't know how to use a feature that has been there since what, Windows 2000?
It sounds like some of your upper management didn't come from IT either. What is sad is they want to copy some files from the "training" computer so they can use their login on their own computer to transfer files to the folder they have access to on the training computer if they use their own login. |
I drank a whole pot of coffee myself today dealing with this, this, stuff.
We even had specific training classes 6 months ago on this crap. If I had hair I wouldn't have hair anymore but since I don't have hair I have none to pull out which make is more frustrating. |
Our marketing department sends notices with mailchimp. The default for spam filters is to block mailchimp because despite what mailchimp says a lot of malicious spamers use mailchimp. When sending from mailchimp it sends from and email address of the user with the account, but the relpy to address is a mailchimp address. So I made a rule that looks at any emails from outside our organization that have an from address with our domain. It compares that email to a list of approved mailchimp senders. If they are in the list it sends it with 0 spam score. If they are not in the list it blocks the message.
This worked great for 2 years. Then we got the new spam filter, proof point, and I was not made an admin. It immediately started blocking all mailchimp emails. The new proof point admin whitelists all of mailchimps ips. Which is a hassle because that list has to be maintained almost weekly. It works for a couple of days, then the marketing department changes who is sending mailchimp emails and they get blocked. The proof point guy says my rule does not have the IPs addresses in it and turns off the rule. Within 30 minutes we get a mailchimp spoofed email to a user that copies and send itself to 70 of our users and others outside our organization. And proof point is supposed to stop all malware too. All IT management can say is...we need to manage our spam filter in one place. Don't have a problem with that, but you also need someone to manage that spam filter that knows what the heck they are doing not just whitelisting IP addresses. Learned that before spent my first year managing spam filters and that was 28 years ago! |
