Gasing up the car was kinda fun with the 914.
Stand with the front bonnet open filling the gas tank. People walking by would joke that the motor was missing. I'd say, yeah come look at this, and open the rear bonnet. That realy flummoxed them. 9 times out of 10 would have to open the engine bonnet just behind the rear glass to show them it in fact, did have an engine. Told them it was hidden to keep it from being stolen.

Yea with my 914 I would go get groceries and the store always had a helper to load customer cars. I would load up the front and finish up with the rear trunk. They always asked “where’s the motor” and I told the it was a pedal car with a fantastic force multiplier. Just pump the pedals and it goes. The stereo is just to make the engine noises.

My 914 had a button on the outside of the rear bonnet to open, On trips, passengers got to use the rear bonnet for their stuff. I used the front bonnet with under dash lever for my stuff. Got quizzical looks at rest & refuel stops with travelers digging thru luggage at both ends at the same time.
First weekend I had the 914 drove to a family reunion in NE Tennessee. An Uncle by marriage told me he absolutely hated it. He was an Army cook during WWII and hated everything German because of it.

All 914 had a button to get into the rear trunk. And in America, we call em trunks.
![]() Have you been watching too much Wheeler Dealers? Welp, it is official, Mrs Carrera is not gonna go to Florida with me. My first day out was a stop at my brothers place anyway, so I will just pick him up and we head out the next morning. Just like spring break, only a couple of geezers not college age guys. I doubt we will be doing any tequila shots off of some co-eds belly. In fast no tequila at all, just a few beers and in bed before 11:00 PM for sure.

Think I've just had too many different kinds of cars.
Most American vehicles require a key as opposed to just pushing an unlocked button to get into the "trunk" The two American cars I've had required a key turn in the back to open the trunk. They also had gas filler's behind the flop down license plate. Park with the pump on either side. The 2 944 turbo hatch backs required a key turn in the back to open the hatch. The Audi had a knob that could be locked or left unlocked. It required turning the knob not the key to open. Like my 914, except the 914 had a button instead of a knob. The 928's you could use an internal unlock switch or a key in the back to open the hatch. The Boxster only had an internal switch to open the trunk, or a button on the remote. The Cayenne has an internal switch and a button on the key fob to lock/unlock the rear hatch. It also has programming to lock and unlock the rear hatch with the rest of the doors, or leave it locked. But you still have to lift the latch to open the hatch. It ain't auto open/close like in newer models. Don't have keys entery and drive either. Don't know if the rear latch was stock on the 914 or not. It had that reflector with PORSCHE in it that went from tail light to tail light like the GTS. On the 914 it was where the model, engine size, and trunk key latch was. But mine had a button that you used the key to lock and unlock.

On the stock 914 the button has a locked position, and a twist of the key will make it just a button that is always unlocked.
If you’d was not stock, who knows what they did.

Day 1 of a predicted four days of rain here. I think I might have to convert my sailboat into an Ark.

That's the way the button worked but think it was longer or something because of the reflector.
What I was talking about was the passenger could get in and out of the trunk without a key by just pushin the button. And had to do the lever thing to get in the front. And was usually open for gassing up anyway. Jim, you probly okay til them mud slides start.

Don't know where Fire Lake is. Do they have hotels or motels and restaurants?
Maybe you mean Firelake Casino in Shawnee OK?

It were cloudy here all day yesterday. So, according to ground hog weather predictions there is not going to be 6 more weeks of winter. Despite it being 6 more weeks until the first day of spring on the calendar.
May as well go with ground hog predictions as not. Can't be much less accurate than human weather forcasters.

Sid, we’re expecting rain all day, every day, through Tuesday. And, being kind, thoughtful folks, we’ll send it on to you guys to enjoy.

The rodent from Pennsylvania says early spring!
So far in 2019, we’ve had about 6.5” of rain. That’s half of our average annual rainfall. We still have two more days of rain expected from this current system, and starting next Saturday, we have 6-8 days of rain predicted.

A lot of rain this past weekend. I love driving in the rain. But I hate everyone else out there.
