Get off my lawn!

Golly a fun Sunday. The boss's wife rousted me from bed early so I could buy her breakfast, then then take her to the local Lowe's for 4 concrete blocks. We then went to the grocery store for new supplies of food.
We we returned I was instructed to zip tie some concrete blocks together, and to have the zip tie hold down the "tree house" cover for the Japanese maple. Now that the one tree in the neighborhood association was cut down and the neighbors tee was cut down, that part of the yard has no shade, and the Japanese maple will not survive full sun. We built a frame of 1/2 inch PVC into a box shape, and used 4 layers of netting over the top to provide shade, but block the sun totally. Finally that is done.

My sweat glands continue to stay flushed out. I got up 30 minutes early to finally wash the El Camino. It was way dirty, but every time I was ready to wash it, the rain was forecast for the next day. All the rain is keeping the humidity higher than normal. It was almost pleasant this morning with 72 degrees but the humidity was 76% as well, and zero breeze.
Our driveway is in completly the shade of the house from 7:00 to 8:00 so I got er done and back into the garage. The upper A-arm bushings are shot on the El Camino. The have to be replaced every 370,000 miles I guess, and I am afraid of that GIANT spring in there. I don't have the spring compressor, but I could go rent one. It still needs an alignment after they are replaced, so I figure I will let the alignment guy replace the bushings, and get it aligned. So that happens tomorrow. It was an additional reason to wash up the Elky. Like my wife makes us make the bed and put a few hundred pillows on the couch if company is coming over. I honestly can't understand the pillows on the couch thing. They take up most of the room of the couch, so any guest has to put them on the floor to sit down unless it is one person per couch. With two couches that seems silly, but I just smile. Happy wife = happy life.

I wish they would turn on the windmills fans and get the wind to blowing just a little. With all those windmill they can crank them up to make a nice breeze. On a windy day you can see them spinning like crazy.
I put the flag up yesterday for flag day, and it just hung there all day, no blowing at all. Same today.

The new a-arm bushing are in, and the Elky is aligned. The old ones were just shot. I guess every 372,000 miles they have to be replaced.

Our Durango needs the front end rebuilt also, but I will pay the local guy to do that since he has time and will align it when done. The van is in the shop getting the body work fixed after the coyote ran into me.
Will probably spend the week updating my resume and start sending some feelers out. Our benefits package fell through the floor here. Also, I have no where to expand my career here. I have a meeting in a couple hours to see if we are still a good fit for each other, but honestly I am not feeling it from them. Mom isn't in great health so if I get a telecommuter job I can help dad more at their house as well.

Yea, the yoke on the driveshaft that goes into the transmission only lasted 370,000 miles and had a grove worn in it. It cost 32 bucks for a new one. Almost like buying Porsche parts!

For the front end all new bushings, 2 per side, were 30 bucks per side for Moog lifetime warranty parts. The labor was the biggest expense of course. 2.6 hours of labor at $125 and then an alignment at $95. That comes to $0.0011 per mile!
The city storm drain at the corner of the road at the edge of our property has a hole in the street. The city is here to repair it all. At least I don't have to pay for that directly. Just part of my taxes. They are parking the heavy equipment in front of my house, so it will be a little tricky to edge along there when I go do the yard work is a few minutes.

They dug down 8 or 10 feet and found a 4 inch PVC pipe draining clear water. Evidently someone put in a drain to the storm drains at least 25 years ago before the neighborhood was finished. Someone is going to have a french drain or floor drain that starts the backup as of today. It sure ain't mine, so whoever has the problem put in an illegal drain.
It was so typical of government construction workers. One full size dump truck with a large trailer and a backhoe showed up at 8:00 and was joined by a F350 pickup. 5 guys dig the hole, well they watched as one guy ran the backhoe. They found the pipe, and capped it. Then they all went back to the trucks that were idling the entire time, and sat and waited for the utility marking guys come out and make notes. Then they waited more for some inspector to arrive, and make more notes. I was edging and mowing and after a couple of hours another full size dump truck showed up with a load of some roadbed like material that looked like almost set concrete. The used an neat attachment on the backhoe to tamp it down flat. They put cones around it and warning tape and started chatting and loading up. It was almost noon before they drove off. Another crew will come back and rebuild the curb, and another crew will come build the road surface later in the week.
