VW create the Porsche Hatchback

Speaking to the German publication AutoBild, Winterkorn admitted that he has three new models in the planning for Porsche under VW control. The first will be a new entry-level model below the Boxster. What you see here is from spy agency Carparazzi showing the long-rumoured Porsche 'hatch'.

What I would like to see is a cheap, light and barebones 911, maybe underpowered with a VW 4 banger for $20k, where you could swap the engine for an old air cooled flat six .

I've said this here before, but I think VW will focus the Porsche brand much better than Porsche on its own could ever afford to do.

I think we will see some sensational new Porsches in the near future.

Porsche NEEDS to make a stripped down, simple, base model - akin to the 914. Roll up windows, as light as possible, minimal electronics to go bad, easily upgradeable engine and suspension.

Another car the many people will refer to as "not a real Porsche"...

Is that particular car front or rear wheel driven?

If rear, I am very interested.

I agree and hope that that is the case. A stripper lightweight Cayman or 911 would be sensational. A "new" 944 or 914 would also be sensational.

An ugly overpriced 4 door or another SUV for the masses is anything but sensational.

Looks like Porsche's (VW's) answer to the M- Coupe

The 944 is a kickass car. You'd be surprised what you can stuff into one and carry around town with the hatchback. It's great, practical and fun as a room full of hookers.

Wow, just came back and looked at it after a couple hours. I LOVE it. If its got a couple fold down seats in the back for the kid....sign me up. Give it a non turbo engine with at least 250hp, rear wheel drive...me likes. Certainly worth $35-$40k.
