Not every Hollweird type is all bad
Cindy & I played pool in Salem yesterday. A regular at the cue ball is one of the "Band of Brothers", the real life Sgt. Don Malarkey, not the actor who portrayed him.
Through a pen pal in Omaha, I learned that Don and survivors of the unit will be in Omaha in early December. A fund raising benefit for the air & space museum there. Thus usual rubber chicken dinner, book signings, etc...all funds to go to the museum. I took the Omaha newspaper clipping to the pool hall with me, so it could be passed off to Don. Luckily, Don was there. We chatted a bit. I was a bit worried about Don's flight to Omaha. He's no spring chicken these days...has had bypass surgery, and the usual problems of somebody well into his 80's. So, the hassles of lines, gates, luggage, going through security, all of it, wears on anybody. But not to worry. Don will be picked up in the Salem, Oregon airport and flown to Omaha directly...In the private jet owned by Tom Hanks. We joked that the flight will be a hell of a lot more comfortable than Don's first flight into France. So yeah, not all hollyweird types are all bad!

How many "Hollyweird" types do you actually know to make the determination that the rest are bad?

speeder, just try to watch a few minutes of "Entertainment Tonight". You will see a lot of very strange people. Tom Hanks seems to be a normal type of guy. I doubt it is just good PR.

Exactly none...but I've listened to some as they espouse their political views. 'Nuff said.

Those who open their mouths on TV to speak about things of which they have no real experience or authority remove any doubt. Really, does some assclown actor genuinely know more about global warming than any other American?

Tom Hanks is the George Soros of Hollywood. He is kind of an enigma of sorts. He rarely spouts off publicly about issues and truly reveres the warriors and their sacrifices. On the other hand, he is at the epicenter of Hollywood politics involving the likes of those listed in post #6 above. He has hosted many a political soire.

Gary Sinise is another good guy that supports our Vets big time.
I think the biggest difference between Hanks and others like him, is the fact that they do it quietly and behind the scenes. They are not like the typical loudmouth know-it-alls of the Hollywood left, that run around screaming about thier expertise on world politics and social issues.

I believe in the first amendment and it it's never bothered me to hear some public figure voice their political views, even if I do not agree w/ them. Let me ask you rednecks a question: does it chap your ass when some dumb schit country western singer plasters flags all over themselves and panders to the NASCAR crowd with a bunch of jingoistic lines in a song just to help their career? Most of them probably couldn't point out the middle east on a map. Never gave it a thought until a thread like this comes along.
Even if you list every actor whose views are different from yours, there are 10k people left in Hollywood working in the film industry that you don't know. I also think that if you went to a convention of people from any industry in America, 75% of them would be dumb schits. The only difference is that nobody on the internet cares what they think. Doesn't matter whether they're right-wing idiots who get all of their info from talk radio or left-wing idiots who believe everything in a Michael Moore movie w/o checking it out. They're all the same: idiots. So what's the big deal, I say.

If some actor who couldn't spell his own name came out in favor of Bush, it would not have bothered PWD one bit.
Just sayin'...

I will give you that at least most of the Hollyweird types are reasonably well spoken, other than Woody, who I publicly make fun of every time I hear him. A couple of weeks ago I across an interview of Woody on Fresh Air (National Public Radio)when I was driving somewhere with my son. He (Woody, not my son) was promoting some movie or another and was railing on about the plight of the poor hemp farmer and how the man keeps him down. I borrowed a page from my liberal friends and used the oportunity for what they would call a "teaching moment". I taught my son the importance of being kind to stupid people, even when they insist on being stupid in public. Edit: PS for Speeder. I just merged my practice with a larger firm. Guess who one of my new partners is? Mike Hatch. A great guy. Through him I've been hanging around with Lori Swanson. Also a great person. Go figure.
