It's what I expected. Damn, I hate medleys, but give it to Daltry for trying to hit the high notes. I bet he can't talk for a week. Light show was terrific. Rock and Roll is a young mans game.

If anyone wants a dose of the Who the way the should be, grab a copy of "Live at Leeds", (get the remastered version, it's longer, and the sound engineering is better), put on your headphones and turn it up as loud as you dare.

So who is left in Dinosaur rock band land to play in the Super Bowl?

Agreed. YOU get up there and play in front of 100 million people then get back to use saying how easy it was.

Their music was great in the old days, but lets face it, we are all getting older and not the same. Considering how many other rock n roll bands are not able to move (lying dead in their casket) they did excellent.

This is not 1975, give them a break and a toast in their direction for still being able to play!

If they had gotten AC/DC up there, they'd have brought the house down.

Concur. Maybe the original Van Halen lineup would do too. Nothing else could get those kinds of ratings. I was watching VH1's Classic Albums yesterday on Who's Next. I am huge Who fan, just love them. But I forgot to watch the Superbowl.

not a big ac/dc fan but ive always thought that they are the one band that can pull off the half time gig perfectly...their sound, personality and lyrics seem made for it

ZZ Top could do it. Lot's of short songs to pick from so a medley of one-verse samples wouldn't be necessary; they still are actively touring and can still play and sing as well as they ever did. They are great to watch live. They understand showmanship, which is rare in a rock band.

I saw the Who in the late 60s when they opened for Herman's Hermits. I had never heard of them back then. Last night they were under-whelming.

Ozzy might be able to do it also

the idea of a band playing at half time is stupid. every time i see it im reminded of the macy's thanksgiving parade. its cheesy and not the proper venue for a rock and roll concert..a band needs to be in front of their fans and, needs a few songs to warm up and get into it

In a perfect world Amon Amarth, Opeth or Lamb of God would play some ear splitting neck breaking death metal to get the crowd going

The NFL just needs to let some new blood on stage. All these 50 and 60 year old "performers"....ugh, i just watched a replay of last years Bruce Springsteen half time show, he was even worse than the Who.

I'm an ol guy and I really appreciate the what The Who has accomplished. The Who's Next album, one of the best. Yes the voices cracked a couple of times, they looked old (because they are), but the music is timless and overall, I liked their performance. Was is their best, no......... but for me it brought back allot of memories when rock and roll and albums were good. However, I can respect the comments that the show was just fair.

Having said that, I think it's time to look at other acts beyond the Baby Boom generation.

The music only seems timeless to you because you're as old as they are and it reminds you of being young.

To me, i was completely sick of the Who, and all those other British rock bands over a decade ago. Even Led Zeppelin.

Yeah, they've done that already. I can't wait to hear New Kids on the Block again. Maybe we should go way back and have Up with People, yet again.

Be careful what you wish for. Decent music from the current generation is pretty slim.

There's a lot of it out there.

How about Carrie Underwood? Chris Daughtry? Alicia Keyes? Beyonce? Nickelback?

There are plenty of big young stars around.

How many Superbowl watchers are fans of those people? I wouldn't recognize a single one of them if they knocked on my door. Do those people have any fans of legal drinking age? If I were in charge of the halftime show, I'd want performers who can attract the demographic with the most cash to buy the kinds of products the Superbowl's advertisers sell. But then, I don't watch football, so I don't even know what kind of commercials are running these days.

Daughtry is the biggest rock act on earth. (his first album went quadruple platinum)

Carrie Underwood is one of the biggest country stars on earth

Nickelback is the only rock "supergroup" of this generation

Alicia Keyes is an R&B superstar with multiple platinum albums that TODAY'S generation actually knows.

Beyonce is probably the biggest female entertainer on earth at this time.

How can you possibly tell me you don't know who Beyonce is?

----

Seriously guys, our old rock bands are "oldies" now.

Not true. there is so much amazing "new" music that I cant keep up with it all...and im talking about rock and roll, not mainstream hip/hop. The problem is that the super bowl is a mainstream consumer event and mainstream radio does not promote new rock and roll so, about 10 people out of 100 million people would know who they are...

for example, I heard part of Arcade Fire's “Wake Up" played constantly throughout the game and I doubt anybody knew who it was except a tiny fraction...Even though the NFL used the song, do you think they will be playing at half time? i doubt it...although, i guess you never know

if you want better rock and roll played at the super bowl, boycott commercial radio, support your local college radio stations and wait about 20 years for Clear Channel to wake up to reality
