Did someone suggest it was an automatic shotgun?

Did she have a relative/friend in law enforcement?

semi auto.

friend in highschool had one. great guns. don't see them that much anymore.

process of elimination. three shots, so guessing it wasn't a double barrel. and having to pump it at least twice seems sort of unlikely too.

so that leaves you with something like the browning.

a family in law enforcement would go towards explaining how she was never charged/ r even booked in that case. has to have been someone pulling some strings.

Her mother either worked on a police commission or had close ties to one.

Reportedly when this lady was 20 years old she and her brother had gotten into a heated argument when the gun accidently went off.
Then she fled the house with the gun, pointing it at innocent bystanders and yelling at them, threatening to kill them. The police eventually showed up and arrested her at gunpoint and had to tell her repeatedly to drop the weapon or they would shoot.

The Dinstrict attorney said no charges would be filed, it was all just an accident.
He reportedly was friends with the mother.

WOW, if all of that is true the families of all the folks she just killed should go after him for dereliction of duty.

From the Boston Globe:
"Frazier, who was a Braintree officer in 1986, said Bishop fired three shots: one that hit a wall, one that killed her brother, and a third into the ceiling as she fled their Hollis Avenue home on foot. Bishop also pointed the pump-action gun at a passing vehicle in an apparent attempt to get the driver to stop before she was captured by police behind a business on nearby Washington Street, according to Frazier, who said his account came from one of the officers who responded."
Article here.

How do you accidentally shoot a pump action three times?

You don't. A former DA now turned congressman(whose career is probably about to be destroyed) simply refuses to press charges because he knows your family.

This congress scumbag should get charged for ALL these murders. The fking piece of human trash.

I don't think the DA knew the family; I think the closest link we've got between the shooter and the authorities is that her mother was a town official of some sort.

That's not to say the whole thing doesn't stink to high heaven.

Yep.

If he can't show a very valid reason for not prosecuting he should be prosecuted for accessory to murder after the fact. I hope the press goes for blood. He need to be out of office for sure.

There seems to be more than one report. The report listed on the Fox site doesn't have the details that Sammy's does. I expect that "more" details available early in the investigation and were in the papers. This is just a short distance south of Boston (Suburb, really).

Some of the local residents remember it differently. At least 2 eyewitnesses remember her having the shot gun outside the house (so she didn't drop it and run). Also, as the 87 yr old police officer has noted, there is no ballistic information (Type/brand/model of shot gun).

Also, even the reports of what the mother said are not consistent. Some times there are 3 shots, others, only 2. She fired the weapon upstairs in the house, but no one heard it down stairs. After accidentally shooting a gun, she still carried it around. If she wasn't securely holding the weapon when it fired the first time, she should have had damage to the finger that set it off. Also, unless it was a Browning Automatic (not the usual home defense weapon) how did it it get reloaded / re-cocked twice?

It definitely wasn't a double barrel, since she talked about "unscrewing" the end of the tube. This sounds like a pump action shotgun. The Browning isn't like this.

It all sounds like the mother talked the Chief into letting the State Police investigate, after he gave an accidental report. Staties followed his lead, and the DA followed the state report. If I were to point fingers, it would be the mom and the Chief.

One report cites that it was a pump action, and that she brandished it at a passer by in a car in an attempt to car jack the person and escape.

A local police chief and the Norfolk district attorney’s office gave differing accounts of the Dec. 6, 1986, shooting that killed 18-year-old Seth Bishop at the siblings’ Braintree home, raising questions about the handling of the case.

The town’s current chief, Paul H. Frazier, said police were prepared to arrest and charge Amy Bishop immediately after the shooting but were ordered to release her by the chief at the time, who called the death accidental. The file containing the report from officers at the scene disappeared from the station not long after.

“I don’t want to use the word ‘coverup,’ ’’ Frazier said at a press conference yesterday afternoon. “I don’t know what the thought process was of the police chief at the time.’’

John Polio, the chief in 1986, defended his conduct yesterday and disputed Frazier’s version.

“That’s a joke. That’s got to be a joke. If anybody knows history, I never covered anything up,’’ Polio said at his Braintree home. He said he thought that the Bishop family’s explanation of an accident was murky and that he wanted the district attorney to hold an inquiry. A report released last night by the district attorney’s office confirmed that the DA’s office investigated and also ruled the shooting an accident.
That's be the former district attorney's office of US Representative William D. Delahunt. Democrat. Mass-a-choo-sits.

The report disappeared ......wonder how that happened.
I think cover-up is the ONLY word to use.

it gets better....

“The husband of an Alabama professor accused of fatally shooting three colleagues said Monday that the couple went to a shooting range recently, but that he didn’t know where she got the gun she used for practice that day.
***
[Husband James] Anderson said he knew his wife had a gun, but didn’t know when or how she got it.

“I really don’t know how she got it, or where she got it from,” he said in an interview at his home.

Police have previously said Bishop had no permit for the gun they believe she used in the shooting, and investigators said they didn’t know where she got it. It’s not clear if that was the same gun that her husband knew about.

Bishop’s husband said nothing unusual happened on their trip to the shooting range, and that she didn’t reveal why she took an interest in target practice. Nothing in her behavior before the shooting foreshadowed the violence last week, either, he said.

“She was just a normal professor,” he said.”

Total wack job.
I wonder if any charges resulted in the IHOP case.....or did they disappear too.

Here's a link to the police report:

Amy Bishop -- Police report -- 1986 shooting - Boston.com

Mossburg 500A...pump action. How one accidentally sets off a pump action shotgun three times is beyond comprehension.
