My Good Samaritan Story

So I'm running errands in a slightly dodgy part of town today. No time for lunch, so I stop in to a small shop that sells pizza by the slice. I'm the only customer. Two minutes later three kids come in. About 13 or 14 years old. From the Subcontinent. Nice looking kids. Speak good English with a Bombay accent. They are turning their pockets inside out and can't come up with the price of a pizza slice. It was a pathetic scene—right out of "Slumdog Millionaire".

I say "grab yourselves some slices and soft drinks. They're on me."

They're stunned and say "thanks mister" repeatedly and wolf down their pizzas.

A few minutes later I pay and leave the place, and they're right behind me. Soon they're pulling at my sleeves, and its "mister, mister... you give us some money".

I say "no" and brush them off. They get increasingly loud with their demands for money. This goes on for a block and a half. Finally one of them yells. "Hey mister. I give you blowjob. Twenty dollars."

Now the street is crowded here with lunchtime trade, and lots of people are hearing this, but don't know the back story, and I'm starting to get very pissed. Meanwhile the three of them keep grabbing my sleeves—until I realize they are trying to get at my watch. At this point I stop and tell them to feck off before I get really angry.

They continue to shadow me for half a block or so shouting about blowjobs and cocksockers and the like, and then two of them suddenly make a break for it and try to rip my watch off my left left arm. I was carrying my aluminum Zero Halliburton briefcase in my right (as I often do) and decked them both out of reflex. They both went down briefly. One I think was hurt. I turned around and told them to feck off again, and kept going until I got to my car. This time they didn't follow.

This same Zero Halliburton case has been put to similar use twice before. I decided I might write the company about this, and volunteer to do a commercial for them. I've also decided to mind my own business in future, and not buy strange people pizza slices.

a good deed never goes unpunished,
but just remember, I think after my full cavity search you will owe me a pizza.

That's very disheartening... I was/am looking forward to being able to be so generous in the future...

Sounds like the kids that were on the sub-continent when I lived there.

Just kidding man! but back on the topic. You were set up man, they knew you would probably be generous in the store. I bet they were watching the store and waited for a "sucker" to go in. This happens all over the world. Make no mistake , these guys were old pros who probably have been running that scam since they were 5. You should have bashed thier skulls in with that case .

The real shame is that those three punks caused a lot of future free meals for other kids to stop.

Several years ago I stopped in a taco joint. The older sister was telling kid brother she did not have any money for more food. She looked like she was 18 and the boy was 8 or 9. The kid reminded me of myself at that age. He was a skinny kid with a bit of sunburn. I was on my way out of the restaurant so I stopped at the table and asked the kid how many tacos he could eat. Without hesitation he said "10" so I said OK lets see. I bought 10 tacos and watched him devour them all. I asked the sister if she wanted anything and she said maybe a burrito, kid brother asked for two more tacos. I told her to order what she wanted and I paid for that as well. I left before they finished eating.

Where did this happen? I haven't seen such aggressive panhandling before in the US, only in other countries.

I had lunch with a customer last week, who works for a gun lobby, and we got to talking about how he got into that kind of work. He was attacked in Vegas by a group of Crips with baseball bats on initiation day. His car had broken down and he was in the parking lot of a car parts store with his GF in the front seat. He disarmed the first one to come at him and hit the kid so hard that he's now a vegetable. The rest took off and the cops took my my buddy along on the chase, as they had been looking for this crew for a while. My buddy was able to ID them all and testified to get them sent away for a long time. No charges against him for his work on the first one that came after him.

That sounds sorts like the axe handle scene in High Plains drifter.

Next time you get the urge, you might "do the right thing."

BTW, it's not a lack of compassion, it's just that there are way too many ways for it to go bad. First of all, if you weren't in that pizza joint, and decided to give a panhandler (or those kids) a dollar out on the street, you're all of a sudden standing less than three feet from him/them with your wallet open.

Think about it.

Help "the poor" another way.

it's just that kind of crime in Canada that we keep our borders closed down here!!
Bet you could have traded pizza for blowjobs if you'd had thought to negotiate up front! LOL

Now that's a real world story if ever i saw one.

Violence is wrong though, the proper way to handle the situation would have been to call the police.

You should never stand up for yourself when confronted and assaulted, as it could get you sued!

Save yourself the hassle, bitterness and disillusion.

But if you want to come to the hoods of Philly sometime (since you're already in the area) i'll protect you when the natives decide they want more than the charity you were willing to share....

Yep, scam artists start young. In fact young scam artists are the best of all. They have the camouflage of innocence to lure you into their machinations. Women scam artists are also especially effective.

If you for EVEN ONE INSTANT ever get a "bad feeling" about anyone, walk, immediately. Do not "Hope" you're wrong. When you "hope" you end up electing a Marxist president...

Un-friggen believable!!

Here's my good samaritan story.

At Taco Bell with my then 7 year old son. Two teenagers ahead of us bought their food and asked for water cups. The kids proceed to the soda fountain and top off their cups with soda, drank that and re-filled and took their seats at a table. I walked over to them, whipped out two bucks and as loud as I could, I said "since you both are obviously way too poor to actually pay for the soda you stole, let me buy it for you". The looks on their faces was priceless.

A good life lesson for my son as well.
