![]() This is the fastest turbo car i ever had. Very little could keep up with it in a straight line. It also had surprisingly good brakes and handling for the type of car it was... ![]() I also had a really nice 400hp ZZ4 roller motor 68 Lemans with turbo 400, 12 bolt posi, 3200 stall, and yada, yada, yada.... ![]() My coolest nip car besides the Stealth turbo that i owned and flipped in less than a week was this one... ![]() 96 Eclipse GS turbo. Very fast car. But this is still my all time fave car i've owned:

I'm getting the Porsche bug again, starting to eye 3.2 911s more and more, who knows maybe this is the year
As far as American muscle cars there are few that move me however back in the 80's I did spend 1 hr with a GT350 that I will never forget. It was red/white and the sounds it made were unforgettable. I think I prefer the Hertz colors though. ![]() I would never pay the $$ that car commands today but would be perfectly fine with a replica built by me and my son Zack. Or do I keep searching for that perfect 911 3.2 coupe in black... |

I have to say that i love american and german engineering but each for there own reasons. i love the precision of a german car (P-car) and i love the raw power and torque of an american muscle. while a 928 may be able to beat most american cars from that era it still doesn't have the same feel (atleast to me) as a tire destroying american torque monster. but as an all around car the p-car takes it because they can go like hell and turn a corner. but as of last year in the gt series i watched the pontiac's give the porsche's a royal spanking at limerock. and the sound coming from them was amazing.

You need a 16v 928 with a free flowing exhaust to get the big American V8 feel and sound.
The 32v motors feel much more Euro. The chairman of Nissan at the time of the design of the 300ZX twin turbo drove a 928. He ordered his engineers to make a Japanese 928. The 300zx TT is the result. (or so the story goes) Last edited by m21sniper; 03-26-2010 at 01:36 PM.. |

I used to drive an 87 300ZX (non-turbo) - it was my parents. In fact, I hosed the clutch on it when I was about 18, not from abusing it, but just because I was fairly new at driving standard.
I couldn't stand the car - it was ridiculously heavy. I knew nothing about cars back then, and how they should feel, and even then I could tell is was way too heavy for the power it put out. Seats were uncomfortable - anyone who sat in the back on a long trip inevitably got carsick. It had a ridiculous digital dashboard that looked more like something from the original Star Trek series than anything that could give you useful information. Ugh. I never drove the next generation, but I did spend a fair amount of time with a 350Z, and it's a completely different car - I loved it.

You know the concept of usable power - not just how what the max power is, but how much of the power you can actually use.
I think there's a concept called "usable fun" that is relevant here. Driving "fast" is not inherently fun. What's fun is driving at a speed that is fast given the limits of the car and the driver and traffic/safety on that particular road. Take a given stretch of twisty road. In a Austin-Healey 100, 45 mph feels like you're Aryton Senna - you're shifting, drifting, catching, having a great time. In my 89 Carrera, 45 mph is mildly entertaining - I can stay in the same gear and steer with one hand but its nice to hit the apexes. In a GT3, 45 mph is stone boring - I'm probably fiddling with the radio and drinking coffee. Now, there is a speed that makes this road great fun in the Carrera, probably 60 mph. And at 80 mph in the GT3, it's probably fun. But this is the street, not the track. There are blind corners, bicyclists, little old ladies, police, cross-traffic, etc. You just can't sensibly go 80 mph here, even 60 mph is $500 ticket time. For this road, I think the A-H has the most "usable fun". For a pure pleasure car, I'd want the one with the most usable fun for the roads where I'm going to seek my fun. It might be an A-H 100, it might be the Carrera, it might be . . . So this is where the muscle car comes in. In city driving - straight lines, 90 deg turns, 40 mph speed limits and lots of pedestrians/traffic, what can be more fun than a classic muscle car? You get that jolt off the line, rear tires breaking loose, you can hang the rear end out merely turning right on a red light. If I did all my driving "in town", I'd want my 65 Mustang back. Now, Paul's Mustang is a far cry from a vintage muscle car (in a good way). I'll bet he picked the car with the maximum usable fun for the roads that he drives.

My MIL has a 2001 or 2002ish Mustang V6 automatic. I can't believe Ford had the nerve to put the Mustang badge on such a boring, horrible car. Hopefully the V8s and newer models live up to the reputation of the badge.

I never for one second understood the appeal of the 240Z. TOTALLY underpowered.

I disagree - I had one for a summer and loved it. Not the most zippy car ever, but a much better power-to-weight ratio than the 300ZX.

Not the 300zx turbo. The 2nd Gen 300zx Twin Turbo was 300hp. 240 and 280ZX's and N/A 1st gen 300zx's are dogs with fleas.
