Sleep Number owners
Do you own a Sleep Number bed? If so, how has the experience been? I'm looking more for quality feedback than comfort feedback.
Have you had anything break? Leak? Fail? I've heard reports of leaking mattresses and failed pumps. Beds that decrease their firmness by 5 numbers per day. Also heard about difficulties with getting defective components replaced under warranty. Thanks for the feedback.

Only prblem we've had in 6 years is the soft sides tend to deform. No leaks, no pump failures.
We like ours a lot, and my wife has pretty bad back problems.

Best bed I've ever had. My side sprung a leak after 10 years and they sent me a new air bladder, divider and top foam for free. Plus pre paid shipping labels to return the old stuff. They get bad press on the web for customer service but my experience was the best customer service I have had in a long time. I will never own a conventional bed again. My wife is disable because of a bad back and even she says the bed is the best ever.

Love ours. It holds pressure, works great, very comfortable.
We did have a problem with the pump after 3-4 years, they sent us a new one for, I forget how much, not free but it was little enough that I didn't care. $50 maybe.

My wife and I hated it. Sent it back after three weeks. Reminded me of a waterbed without the sound.
Do yourself a favor; go get a camping air mattress and sleep on it for a few nights. If you like the feel, this may be the bed for you. My father-in-law loves his.

I think we need clarify. Mine is the original Select Comfort. There are others that may not be as good.

Good point - there are several models from Select Comfort too. Plus options like pillow-top or regular top, etc.
I've slept on waterbeds as well as camping air mattresses and do not see the similarity, personally...but as with many things it's best to try before you buy, if feasible.

Have had one for many years. Wife bought it. I was very skeptical at first, b/c I thought it would be like sleeping on a camping air mattress, or a waterbed type feel.
But I love it now. I know it technically is an air mattress, but it doesn't feel like one at all. Feels like a regular mattress to me. It's nice being able to put the firmness exactly where you want. Also, unlike a normal spring mattress, it never changes consistency, it stays exactly the same year after year. Haven't had any problems with it. Maybe once every six months we check the air pressure, sometimes it needs a small adjustment, but that's just a press of the button. |

I bought juan for my parents about 5 years ago. They loved it - I thought it was mediocer compared with our bed(2000 $ king). So far, remote only has died - however, had to replace compressor in order to fix remote. They prorated the warranty - but OUCH!

12 years and still going on our queen-size Select Comfort. I hate sleeping anywhere else.

At first I was totally against a glorified camping bed.
Now cant sleep anywhere else. 2 things I like a higher # and my wife a lower #. If one of us is away, adjustment needs to be made . Then it takes a couple of shots to get thing back on track. ie #45 on on side is different with a different # on the other side or a missing person. for serious "extra curricular" activities I have found that the firmer setting more user friendly. My wife knows its BIZZZZNESS time if her bed has been adjusted for her ![]() TMI ?

Hi
|
The wife ordered one of these sleep number beds when it was time to replace the pillow top.
well that was a freaking mistake ! Its not as comfy, it leaks air; i wake up when she turns on the air pump to get her side back to where she wants it, or vise-versa. Needless to say, we're shopping for another pillow top. |

Mine is the original model - the medium pillow top version.
I believe it is a 2" pillow top. Had it for 10-12 years - no issues, no leaking, pump works perfect. I bought the entry level one for my daughter and it has been perfect as well for 4 years.

Worst bed I've ever had. After 2 years I handled all I could. We went out and bought a Simmons, and now I sleep again. I HATE that bed!

Thanks for all the responses. We've been thinking about getting one for a long time. The biggest appeal for me is if we go traditional we'll get a soft mattress that she likes. I like a firm mattress.
Did you have problems with it? Or did you just not think it was comfortable?

PS. Simmons sells matresses that are soft on one side and firm on the other. You just order it that way.

Works great, but we had to add little shims to stop it from squeaking

Our has been great. No problems, and each side can be set to the firmness that is comfortable.
