I decided to have a little fun with it. I told her I knew of someone selling their horse. She wasn't really interested.

Ive landed/practiced touch and goes there, its a very nice place........ Tim, I didnt realize till you took off that I was standing next to you. When you were talking to Bill about the radio I was the one who walked up, I was meeting Bill for some side jobs.

Yeah, I used the last of my 300 gallons of non-ethanol containing car gas and I can't get any more here in NW Ohio from any of the fuel suppliers (d@mn ethanol). From here on out, I will have to make trips to airports to fill up the Pacer with the over $4/gal 100LL avgas.

I'm with the "keep looking" crowd. My wife and I are really clear about big decisions - we both have veto power. Doesn't mean it's the dead-end of any discussion on the issue, but it's a pretty strong veto. So in a case like this, if I wanted it and she didn't, veto. Done. It's too big a decision and impact on your life to have to convince someone. Same thing would go for the dollhouse in cookie-cutter suburbia. If she wanted that and I didn't, veto. Done. That was how we shopped for our house, when we were still renting. We spent a long time looking - months, because we both kept veto'ing, and we both understood that we had to both be completely happy with our decision. And in the end, we're both really happy with the decision.

Jake's idea is a good one. We did something similar. We both drew up a list of what we wanted in the house, maybe 5 or 10 things, then ranked them from the most to the least important. We compared lists and circled what we had in common - those became "must-have"s. The rest became "would be nice"s. Luckily, our top 2 priorities were the same, just in opposite order (mine #1 was inside space, #2 was outside space, hers were the same, reversed) so we knew we needed a fairly large house with a fair size back and front yard. In the end, because that was more important than location, that ended up determining our location (due to budget). The only thing neither of us considered was garage size (this was pre-Porsche days). We thought the 1.5 car garage was plenty. Wrong.

edit: I think trying to convince someone of a house they don't really want, then winning that argument, is a recipe for major resentment a few years down the road. She'll always hold it over your head, and it will be the source of countless fights - not just fights over not liking where she's living, but deeper resentment issues.

It really doesn't matter right now. We're not in a position to buy just yet.

If our house sells, and this is house is still on the marker AND this is the house that is on the market that I like the most, then we have an issue.

Nice house...may be a good compromise. 3 car garage helps, but the walk out basement may be easily opened up for a complete shop

The further out in the boonies.... the better. A 30-45 minute drive to work is a small price to pay for "freedom" to enjoy your home/property. You need to look at the future possibility of urban sprawl and pcik your location accordingly.

I can't believe that the house you just posted was built in 86. My parents built their house in 90 and it looks about 20 years newer. Granted they have updated the interior, but even simply looking at it from the outside it has the same effect.

You can always settle on something now and in a few more years get a little cabin and some acreage out in the sticks to have fun on.

Well, I mow my own yard (grudgingly), fix my own car, let my kids play outside, no guns (this *is* Canada, after all

) and piss in my yard if I want to. Preferably not while my kids are playing in it, though, although come to think of it that never stops our 1 1/2 year old!
