$30,000+ for a new 3.0 engine

I was bored and added up a new engine cost using pelican parts wizard for a new 3.0L without intake components, $30k I think I got most of the bits and pieces. Add a new CIS for another $10k and you will have a nice, stock, 3.0 for a couple hundred thousand care free miles.

Interesting... I mean if you could build a virtually new engine... Lots of benefits here.

I would rather spend that money fixing an air cooled 911 than buying something more modern
Not all on the engine mind you but the car as a whole.

It would be reliable and frugal if you invested in a good (sensible) after-market EFI system to help with fuel economy.
Why not update a bit? Also... You'd have a sleeper capable of out performing most other cars on the road.
Thought of this way a 911 suddenly becomes one of the most economical cars on the road.

BTW: I know a lot of people who would spend $30,000 on crap they don't need, a "cheap" Korean 4x4 or a second hand Toyota/Lexus.

I believe some time back it was computed that building a Chevy Cavalier from scratch using GM parts pricing would cost something like $100,000.00

Everyone on earth knows that spare parts are marked up through the stratosphere compared to the price the initial customer(the manufacturer) pays.

Somewhere in the Pelican catalog there used to be a listing for "replacement engine - CIS", it was $14K or something.

I think those engines were old inventory from Vasek Polacks race shop. There were ten I think.

Someone did build a VW Corrado from NOS parts.... There's a thread about it on the Vortex.

It was crazy on the price too...
