Tree Fungus?

Mom sent me these cell phone pics.... This a fungus? In several of the cedar trees in their pasture...

What should they do about it?

They could do like Steven McQueen did, get the fire extinguisers out and freeze it, then call out the national guard, or cut that crap off.

WTF is that anyway? They should call the closest University Ag extension office and ask them

My initial thought involves a little Diesel and whole LOTTA FIRE... But mom won't stand for that....

I'm thinking its some kind of fungus.... But I'm more of a chemist than a biologist.... I may ask one of my profs on Wednesday....

and spray, I think it is copper sulfate for that, micro cop, the two part liquid mix is better, has stuff to make it stick better.

Of course nothing really hurts a Cedar tree except fire. The worst weed in Oklahoma.

I'm not too worried about the cedar trees... We'll get my buddy with a skidsteer and tree shear to come take care of them if we have to... its the apple trees we don't want to lose....

Oh and glen... mesquite is the worst weed here..... That **** throws sparks when hit with a chainsaw....

I'm not exactly sure.... The grow like weeds here... Don't ever get very big either.... There are guys that make a living clearing them out of pastures.....
