+1. I've had 914s going back to the 80s. Certainly attracts an, umm, "mixed" crowd, particularly in the post-Internet era. Some good people, but a lot with, like you say, "issues," including crooks and felons. Overall, not a scene I miss at all.

It can't be that hard since they do it at DEs all the time. Ever heard of a wristband for drivers?

Some guys gets physial with me and I'd be threatening to pop a beer bottle on his head too.

• All the "official" needed to say was "We can't monitor who drives and who doesn't at these events, that's why there has to be a no alcohol policy"

Can't say I appreciate that post. I, too, spent a considerable amount of my Porsche experience with teeners. There are just as many 911 owners I would rather not have over to my house.

Anyway, on with the thread. I got most of the story about the *incident,* but what DID the PCA have to say about it?

You know, beer and racing go back a long, long way. I guess what's happening now is just another reason I'd rather drop out of the Porsche scene. Some time ago we car guys thought of the hobby as relaxing.

I know alot of 914 guys and you are right, they all seem to have issues. Oh, did I say 914, I meant to say say 911, 924, 928, 944, 9...

I saw the 914club post before it was removed... and I was at this event but had no idea about this incident until I read about it on Monday. This was a two day event though, and there was mention of something at the Sunday's driver meeting that seems likely to be connected.

In the meeting, it was mentioned that a couple "drunk" people had forced there way into the event passed our gate security and that there was a scene (and how in the future rather than start a confrontation we should just call the police, which I would've thought the obvious first choice as we've generally kept a good relationship with the local authorities).

Now, either the people with the beer had an earlier confrontation or some kind of scene at the gate before entering where physical threats were made, or someone else had and then two other people showed up soon after with beer and received less benefit of doubt than they might of otherwise.

Ultimately though just adding second hand info. The club regulars are level headed individuals that generally watch out for our events. The details that have come out though are troubling and I would certainly like to hear more details.

Its an unfortunate event that will likely end in hurting PCA and the GGR club. Given severity of the issue I would suspect lawyers are posturing as we post. I just dont understand how long term attendees can allow themselves to get into this sort of a situation? I know many of us GGR members are shocked. When I heard account of incident from eye witness I was filled with disbelief especially given who was involved.

I do think there needs to be better education with all people in PCA official positions how to deal with violence and threats of violence. In my opinion Police should always be called in event of threatened violence and those offenders escorted off premises. PCA is a family organization with kids often in attendance.

Both parties involved should be ashamed of their behavior.

Here's what goes through my mind if I see somone drinking a beer. I politely say are you aware of no drinking policy at PCA events? If person is belligerent I would immediately go to most senior PCA official at event and report issue. Never would I put myself in position of starting a conflict at a family oriented club event by trying to grab the beer or verbally accost someone. If I had witnessed this first hand I would have called 911 immediately no second thoughts.

I really hope PCA and GGR as well as all of us learn from this issue. I hope we all can take something from this that helps us make better choices when confronted with a potentially volatile situations. There is a enough violence around us in our day to day world and I would like to think we can all keep PCA events a sanctuary where our friends and family can occasionally come and watch without fear of knives or weapons being drawn by our own members or member sponsored attendees.

Certainly does wonders for 914 community and reinforces that shady red-neck beer drinking stereotype some have so rightfully earned over the years.

Yes sir, and I use to be the guy who had to tell people not to pop that top until after the last car was finished, never had a problem like this, but then again, I was also the guy who provided the beers, so everyone wanted to stay on my good side

Even at Auto-x's everyone had to sign a waiver, and at least at our events, no one ever got away with this crap (I use to have to talk to those trying to BS their way in too) I'm doing more with the Jag club over PCA these days and will be playing with the Vette guys too.
