That's pretty funny.

I admit that I was dreading seeing a picture of the car, four feet shorter, collapsed against a concrete bridge abutment.

Ahhh, to be a kid once again.

Makes me think about the time I missed a 3-4 upshift (found 2nd, instead) while hot-rodding my dad's car (with him in the passenger seat). The 10K tach showed 11K RPM and I bounced the pistons right off the heads.

Bye bye factory 2.8ST motor.

Bent 11 of 12 valves ... less than 1000mi after he just rebuilt the motor.

The outcome? I broke it ... I rebuilt it. And so began my career as a Porsche mechanic.

You beat me to it. . .yeah, I was just thinking "nice art on that garage there. . . I think I'll park a freakin' 180k car there and see what happens"

Ya gotta wonder about what friends were with old Cameron there when he decided to go see the game.

Wonderful story.
Peter Cheney’s writing is great and I will follow his reviews.

Most kids have something like this experience – usually not this expensive or written about in such a public way.
He will be reminded of this forever, thanks to the web’s ‘permanent memory’.

When 911SC first came out, there were a bunch of similar ‘accidents’ where the owner would reach in through an open window and crank the 911 to ‘warm it up’. Too often, it was in gear and the parking brake not firmly set. There were several that went through the back structure of the garages, taking tool benches, etc. in tow.

When you start a 911: clutch in, in neutral and parking brake set.

Once fired, I let the clutch out to turn the transmission while I fasten my seat belt.
Every engine and transmission likes this ‘pause’ to get lubrication everywhere.

Best,
Grady

The car has to be worth more than that entire neighborhood from the look of it.

Uhh, no. Not even close. Not even a house. Maybe a quarter of one.

He must have depressed the clutch to start it? Then thought he was in neutral? Maybe?

$180k must be the Canuck price for that car. It certainly isn't the U.S. one. The guy was an idiot for tossing the keys to his child. This was a telegraphed event. The lack of common sense of some people astounds me.

It's a press car. He gets the car to write about it, then gives it back.

Well, I wanna be a journalist for the Globe! I could do that...

"As I sat down into the seat of this formidable beast I knew one thing was for sure, my son would really like to be in my place. Aside form failing grades and a coke habit, he has been grounded for having 2 Asian prostitutes in his room while my wife and I sleep only to be awoken by tribal dance music, the smell or burning cat hair and the banging of his headboard. I turned the key and the whir and whine of this fantastic beast indicated it was ready, no make that DEMANDED to be driven hard (not unlike the Asian prostitutes that my son contracted an STD from the week before). I set off down rt 10 to test the prowess of this fine Germen steed..."

See, I could do that...
