I hate my POS iPhone...

Android kicks azz. I really love my android phone and would happily get one of the newer htc models if there was anything wrong with mine. I've dropped mine in water (completely submerged) twice, and dropped it on sidewalks several times. Even drove off with it on the roof of my car once. I noticed when at 15 it shot past the driver's side window. The case was gone, but the phone was fine. My wife's was run over, but still worked except for the broken screen and dented case. We laid it to rest anyway.

I love the fact that the android stuff is open source. Pretty much all of the apps on my phone were free. I think I have two $1 games.

Previous to owning this phone I was all about having a very plain phone. I just wanted it to make calls. I always had cheap (free) Nokias. They always worked really well, great sound, reception, and battery life. I bought a G1 for my wife and spent a week getting to know the phone so I could show my wife how to use it. After that week, I just had to have one. Since I've had it, it's only gotten better as I've customized it to my needs.

The back dating was successful, so we'll see how it goes. The downside is you lose all the emails that were sent and since I use mine a lot, that sucks.

Gotta say, the 4S has been very nice. Much better than the previous models. Very quick and smooth. Siri is awesome - I use her constantly. Voice recognition is near perfect if you speak clearly.

My AT&T contract expires on 12/04 and I will switch to Verizon the same day. I like my iPhone, but am not in love with it. If I were to go with an Android, would I be able to load all my iTunes onto it?

Bet you love the bugs in the OS as well? Love how Apple and MS keep putting out products/software that have not been fully beta tested, then they crash once the public gets them!

Battery bug is not that big of a deal. Batt life could be better but I get a full day out of mine and I am a very heavy user. 5.0.1 has already been released to the dev folks. We'll see if it helps.

I'm with you. I currently carry a backpack everywhere with a 13" MacBook, camera and a ton of other stuff, including my Blackberry. I can't wait to replace all of this with a new iPhone that does 99% of what all of the rest of this crap does together.

I believe there is an app or two to sync and android phone with iTunes. There are also several other apps that will play music on the android.

The front screen broke a while back, I peeled the remaining glass chunks off. It's scratched all to hell. I've broken some small plastic pieces off of it from dropping it several hundred times. It's gone in a river before.

I think the whole phone market putting out these amazing little devices that do-it-all-but make reliable calls is horse****. Those fancy features mask the fact that call sound quality hasn't improved since the 1980's. They also trick you into thinking that because of those features it's OK to be paying ridiculous $$$$ per month.

LOL! As you age, you simplify things...or try to. Thus the Mustang... Phone? Several years ago, I wanted to be able to keep in touch with Cindy during a kitchen remodel. I cannot stand the remodeling disruptions, so I packed my bags & my pool cue & hit the road. In order to call Cindy I bought a prepaid T-mobil base nokia. No contract...I use it for phone calls. It's still functioning well, and a single $100 card purchase each year gives me more minutes than I use.

I chuckle at the $49.95 per moon plans of the TV ads...they screaming as if it's a bargain.

Interesting thread resurrection. I'm now on an Android phone and while I like it, frankly the iPhone is a more elegant solution to most of what a phone does for most people. The OS bugs are not just Apple - everyone does it and Google (ie Android) was the first to never even say that their stuff is done...it is always beta. And consider that when a new version of Android comes out, you may or may not get that update for your phone. You are at the mercy of your manufacturer and carrier. Unless you root your phone which most people don't/shouldn't do.

I'm pretty happy with my Galaxy S2 as I can actually read the screen. I can do my email and other tasks. But it isn't as good from a UI/consistency standpoint as iOS.

The problem with the seamless ones like DoubleTwist is that for some reason they will only store music on the internal memory, not the microSD card. I ended up just manually copying my mp3/mp4 files to my microSD card (hooking the phone up to my Mac laptop with the usb cable). The phone will then scan for the files and I use the built-in music player. Works like a champ. Not nearly as seamless as iTunes/iPhone but it works. If you don't transfer music on/off a lot it is a non-issue. If you're constantly moving things on and off with playlists then you'll miss that.

I have the HTC Evo 4G with Android. No complaints. First time ever!

(and a replaceable battery which is really handy for those long days)

Very funny - back when this thread surfaced I was pretty much sold on the Android OS. Now I've had my iPhone for a while an seriously love it. I'd never trade it for any of the (IMHO) ticky-tacky Android devices that are all about "my screen is bigger". I actually like the size of the iPhone a lot - small. It's easy to carry and the quality is amazing. Still looks/works like the day it came out of the box, and I use mine regularly. I literally bought my house on it. Found/browsed all the listings, did all the financials, received, read and e-signed all the disclosures, etc. As well as made all the calls. And took pictures (lots of pictures). The thing is amazing. A couple of guys I know like their 'droids and that's fine too but for me, the look, feel, overall construction and reliability of the iPhone has made it a clear winner.

I'll have it probably for the next 5-6 years and then upgrade to whatever the best thing is at the time. It's not like this is really going obsolete anytime soon (although I've played with a 4S and the Siri feature is pretty cool - not cool enough to get me to go out and part with another $400 and/or commit to a new contract).

Yeah, I'm sold on the iPhone and I don't even have it yet. I'm around people who have one everyday though and I just see the utility of having such a great camera/screen/browser + delivery device for the photos, not to mention a good phone. In so much of business these days you need to take a quick picture of something and send it along to someone else. Or just keep it for your own reference later.

If I buy a Smart phone and the ubiquitous required monthly data access plan, will I be able to pay just one internet access fee for both home and on-the-go? IOW, will a fully-capable smart phone be able to replace whatever internet access equipment and charges I already have?

The duplication of internet access services is such a waste. Most people now think of this arrangement as SOP.

There's a great app called "PDFit" that allows you to scan documents (or whatever) directly to a PDF file and email it. Very useful for working in the field and distributing sketches, RFI responses and whatever else to project teams in pretty much real time.

The apps available really compliment the device nicely - I'm blown away with the quality and functionality of them.

The ONE thing I've found the the iPhone doesn't have that one would kinda expect is a simple thermometer. A laser (or sonar) measuring ability (or attachment) would be cool too, then I wouldn't have to carry a tape measure or hilti laser measuring tool... One less thing.

I do a good amount of my side business work on this thing too - including viewing and light editing of AutoCAD docs with AutoCAD WS. It can't do the real heavy stuff, nor can it view Revit or Navisworks stuff, but I'd prefer to be at an actual workstation with a nice big screen and mouse/trackball to do that stuff (or primavera/project schedules, actual modeling work, etc).

We've come a long long LONG way. My first mobile phone was one of those bag things. That was barely only 20 years ago... Look what they can do now - and expanding capability daily. Incredible.
