Lots of good advice so far so I've nothing to add but I really hope things work out for the best.

The whole situation sucks.

Oh yeah, you are forgetting one place that LOVES to make stories out of this...THE MEDIA.

I would SO be calling up the local stations and maybe even the regional ones. Want a story about cops not doing their job? Want pics of the broken down door, want ALL OF YOUR NEIGHBORS (other than the tool) on TV telling the TV and whole area what the cops are not doing.

I agree, this makes my blood boil..I am not sure the dude would have made it out of my house at all because if I got him in any kind of headlock, freakin game over.

Vinnie man I can only imagine what you're feeling. If he had cornered you that would be a different matter. But your wife? Man...that guy needs a real talking to.

Vinnie, wow dude. that is some scary stuff. I would be getting a big dog and if he does it again, put him in the hospital for a fair amount of time.

WOW!!!

Vinny, I'm glad you and your wife are OK, so to speak. What others said about the media, go to the City Council, Mayor, etc. and tell them you cannot fricking believe that the police let this POS out of jail. This is assault and battery, breaking and entering, and a bunch of other FELONIES.

I'm glad you didn't chase him down the street and shoot him like the rabid dog that he is. I'd assume he is such a whack job that you need to be prepared to take him out at some point.

Hopefully it never comes down to that, and he gets put away. I just worry about the inbetween.
I intend to make a tremedous stink over this. Plus a bunch of the other neighbors want him run out also. We live on a very quiet residential street in a very good neighborhood. All families with young kids. People are pissed.

As far as the dog, my Cattle dog is a 9 month old puppy. He just wants play with everyone. Poor thing is still scared ****less. On the other hand if my Husky was still alive, the guy would without a doubt, have had his throat torn open.

Hugh, not really sticking up for the cops, because im still fuming about the way they handled it. But once they take him in, it is pretty much out of thier hands. It was the a-hole municipal judge that let him free.
He is still in the hospital as of now. I dont know how long they will hold him. Like I said i'm not letting this go in any way. I will be at the next council meeting( i always go anyway). Hopefuly I can drag other residents on the block also. Plus I will be hitting up the local papers

How do you get released on your own recognizance from assault and battery charges?

Yeah, definitely need to talk to more folks.

This guy was booked on some "wilding" charge of running from the police.

Odds are, they have dealt with him before. You should continue to push the issue and have him re-arrested for assaulting you, your wife and breaking into your house. Sure, all one big misunderstanding on their part (you need to give them the out) - but continue to press the issue.

If the PD gives you flack - share that with your neighbors too. Small town mayors lose their jobs over things like this.

And, sorry to hear about this.

Vinny,

Take your Wife to the range!!! Make sure she is confortable using the spoon. Do you have a revolver? Larger frame will have less recoil, revolvers tend to have less recoil than the slide going back and forth. She is small framed, get a smaller .357 and load with .38 Federal personal defense rounds. Common, off the shelf stuff. Make sure she is comfortable with the spoon! If the round hits and stays in the target then all the energy of the round is expended in the target. A .38 is not as sexy but it will get the job done. You can also put the first round as rat shot. One of those to the face and the rest in the body.

As far as puppy, he is months away from being help but he might be just as good as the Husky was. Can you find a rescue service and adopt an older dog? GSD is good, a Belgian will bond quickly. Standard Poodles will bond quickly and DO protect (think 80 pounds of hunting dog that does not shed). Maybe a Terrier? I tend to think of breeds that are not known as aggressive so insurance companies do not worry about them.

Our Belgian Groenendahl was protecting (read as growling at and getting in front of ANYONE who walked within 10 feet of) my Wife within the first day of us adopting her. Well, anyone except little kids. She has ALWAYS let them walk all over her.

I do wish yall the best! Now go get that restraining order and start your paper trail. You will need it!

Quoted for truth... the lady next door is running a business (with people commuting in and out all day) and city code compliance is just now ramping up. I think they like to watch people and make a case instead of jumping right in; I have a feeling that they'll wind up like a gila monster where they clamp on and don't let go.

He has a "NO contact order". Which like a restraining order, is a useless piece of paper. Especially to someone that isnt of "sound mind". Ive seen people bugging out before but never like I did with him. It was scary. I'm in a hundrd times better shape then him, and still had a hard time controlling him.

The guy is normally a harmless friendly guy, with a good business. But he used a psychotropic drug that has long lasting effects. Which is what led to this. So he can go off at any time, which is why a piece of paper is worth wiping your azz with. Wow , they can arrest him after the fact, big fuchin deal. By then it would be too late.

Vinny, is there a distance restriction on this order? Can you defend your family automatically if he violates the no contact zone?

From what I understand, he is not even supposed to say hello, or even wave. If he attempts to make any contact, step on our property, we are suposed to call the cops. But.... like I said noramal that would be al well and good I'm sure he would honor it. But if he has an "outerbody incident" what good is it??

Sounds like this guy needs a lobotomy or ECT or something. Really out of his control, so punishing isn't the answer. Confinement until he's "safe" is what's needed. Sad situation, but dangerous. And you don't want to let this be put off until someone really gets hurt or killed.

Vinman,

Did you consider going to the local paper with the story?....maybe they can spur the police dept. to take more action.
