I'm waiting for the world to blow up, which we will certainly do with all this antimattery stuff.

Truly an impressive feat. They're a very long way from any practical application, but everything has to start somewhere.

We can split atoms, capture antimatter, build space stations, sequence the human genome and create synthetic life, but we can't rid the world of poverty, free ourselves from seventh-century religious intolerance and oppression in large parts of the world, overcome our own greed or catch one camel-forking diaperhead living in Pakistan somewhere after 10 years of looking and countless millions spent.

Humans are remarkably odd.

Right from the article.

Krauss isn't as bullish as Kaku on the long-term applications of antimatter. Even though he is the author of The Physics of Star Trek, Krauss had just one thing to say when asked about antimatter-powered starships.

"Don't hold your breath."

None of the other tasks you note are actively working to thwart us, and none have the help of the Pakis.

We also cannot control invasions of exotic plants, fungi or animals into our borders very well. They have evolved, and are evolving, to undermine our efforts.

Same with many disease organisms.

Distinguish between static & moving targets.
