Do you have flakes?

I sure do - have my whole life. Tried all sorts of different shampoos and never had any success in really doing anything about it.

Anyone else have flakes? The only thing I haven't done is actually see a dermatologist about it. When I was a kid I was sent home for lice; Mom took me to the Dr. and I didn't have it. Just lots of flakes. Dr. said it was just dry scalp and to live with it.

Do I have to?

You can go see a dermatologist... He will prescribe some stuff that is not cheap, hope you have RX ins.

I've had decent luck with Head & Shoulders, but mine is mild basically dry skin, no flakes.

I think the dandruff shampoos work for most, if not, go see a dermatologist.
If the last time you went to a Dr for this was when you were a kid, then go again, chances are medicine has evolved since then
You don't have to live like a cloud full of snow if you don't want to.
A guy I know has this really bad, anything but light colored clothing and it shows. Why he didn't go to a dermatologist is beyond me.

Head and Shoulders shampoo works great for me. I get flakes from a dry scalp otherwise. Have used it for years.

I knew a girl that used to condition her hair with olive oil. She missed a few days once and I could tell. You might want to try it.

Right, make sure you're scrubbing the dead skin off when you wash your hair.

I used vinegar on one of my kids. Also do not use hot water to wash your hair, the cooler the better ( up to a point).

This, possible tinea capitus(athletes foot, but on your melon) May be lacking something in your diet. My brother had bad dry skin, started taking flaxseed oil capsules and it went away.

Try conditioner, it also puts some moisture in the scalp.

I figure any shampoo with ketoconazole would take care of that? Surely he's tried one of those in the past.

Anyway, I just keep my noggin shaved and moisturize after showering. My hair is too uncontrollable if it's longer than 1/8". Serious Jew-fro.

Most OTC products don't work for me either - Nizoral is the only one that seems to control the condition. If the OTC version does not work then go to a Derm MD.

I think the cold weather recently (What do they call that? Winter I think...) has exacerbated it.

I think I have tried Nizeral or at least considered it. Maybe I'll try it again. I have tried flax seed for a while, in fact my wife puts it in the smoothies she makes for me every couple of days.

I think a Dermatologist visit is in order...

Brush your scalp daily with a firm 100% pure boar bristle brush. Comb hair in one direction followed by may brush strokes. Concentrate on the scalp not the hair. Brush (condition your scalp ) till its pink. You may increase the scalp conditioning time once your scalp adjusts to the brushing.

I've been doing this for 20+ years and never had flakes. I'm also the only male in my family with a full head of hair.
