What was your first post on PP?

Looking at Red-Beard's thread about getting close to 20K posts had me going back to looking for my first post on PP. Was back on October 4, 2000. It was also the first time I was honored to meet Early_S_Man (if only thru his response).

Rot 911 12-03-2010 11:14 AM

By the way, back then I paid $5700 for that '72 911E!

pwd72s 12-03-2010 11:37 AM

How do you find your first post? A computer illiterate wishes to know..

Not as easy as it used to be. What I did was go to the 911 Tech Forum as I knew that is where I first posted. Then go down to the bottom left and change the display threads from the "last 45 days" to from "the beginning." Then start looking thru the threads around the time you first signed on.

I bet someone else will know an easier way.

pwd72s 12-03-2010 11:46 AM

I tried, but can't get rid of last 45 days...oh well, probably wasn't anything important.

mossguy 12-03-2010 11:47 AM

First Post: "Are there any grease points on the 911?"

Best,
Tom

scottmandue 12-03-2010 11:49 AM

I actually started posting to the 944 board with... gasp... questions about my car!

At some point we were talking about rifles and Z-man bumped the thread to OT.

It has been a slippery slope since then.

kaisen 12-03-2010 11:52 AM

My first post:

"Which is faster: a Ford Mustang, or a well sorted 944?"

island911 12-03-2010 11:54 AM

Here ya go, pwd, http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/7655-driving-music-2.html#post49977

mossguy 12-03-2010 11:55 AM

A little more about my first post. Dantilla was one of the helpful responders and recommended that I check in with Pete Bristow here in Tacoma. I did that and have had a fine relationship with Pete for the last four years. He has taught me a lot, is an excellent diagnostician and mechanic, and is very patient with forgetful geezers.

Thank you, Dan!

widgeon13 12-03-2010 11:57 AM

Not sure I want to know.

9/22/05 after the first time I filled up my new-to-me 72T. I was asking how large it was.

Later I bought a manual!

Guess I've softened some over the years...:D

I think this should work.
1. Click on your name where it says "Welcome XXX"
2. Click on the statistics portion
3. Click on the posts by XXX
4. Click on the "last" page and see the first one.

Mine only shows the last 500 posts.

dhoward 12-03-2010 01:10 PM

Funny. My first post in 2002 was about Struts.
Kurt responded!
:)

I went to Subscriptions under CP and clicked last. It worked!

Zeke 12-03-2010 01:45 PM

I was Zeke914 back then. I had a 914 race car under build. I have no idea what my first post was, but it was on the 914 forum. I use to do ShopTalkForums and the one (at the time) 914 Forum that ended up with Brad Roberts.

I have no idea what that world is up to these days. During those early days I used to host 914 gatherings here in Long Beach. Donuts and coffee. How novel, eh?

But, about the 3rd one I showed up in this ratty old 911 S. Game over.

vash 12-03-2010 02:05 PM

i dunno. i seem to remember something about raw fuel spewing from my exhaust.

My first post was in the Simple Question: Why a 912? thread!

Geez, I was a FKIA even back in '02:

"I have a GA and a GC, both 2.0's. The GC case does not have an oil pressure control valve, whereas the GA does. Now some want to tell me that the lack of a control valve (not the pressure relief valve located on the bottom) is a bus motor. And others say that no valve means hydraulic lifters. I have strong reason to belive that both statements are false. First of all, the oil fill on the GC case is in the 914 position; secondly, this motor is a virgin and it has the real deal 2.0 heads complete w/ the EGR holes. So, I think Jake has it, case the same, oil system variations in later years."

Now who'd have thunk that? :D

BTW, the motor blew up on the 2nd lap of its first day at the track. So, yeah, I was a pretty smart cookie.

Christien 12-03-2010 05:40 PM

Wow, fun to check this out. My first post was when I first bought the car, a really simple problem of a dead brake light switch: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/191883-brake-lights-issue.html

It's amazing how much I've learned since then. When I bought my car, I deliberately bought an early car because I wanted to learn how it worked, and wanted to start simple. I literally had no idea what a carburetor was, or even how to change a fan belt. I knew absolutely nothing about cars. I'm still no certified mechanic, but I've learned a ton along the way.

cgarr 12-03-2010 05:52 PM

2-17-2002 when I got my 912 Wow I have come a long way!

I remember my first OT post was something like, "so help me out on all the characters on OT" Great stories, mainly around fastpat, tabs, and Milt, if I remember.

Surprise, surprise, it appears I was selling a car!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-912-technical-forum/100500-67-912-sale.html

I had found a complete but beyond restore 912 locally that I bought for dirt cheap, I ended up selling it to a nice gentleman from Wyoming who had several other 912s and wanted it for parts.

Trying to fix my AC... Ended up doing a compressor clutch, which has since been replaced again....

That was a few posts ago.... :D

It'll take some digging to find my entry to OT.
Edit....

It took 3 whole months for me to venture into OT!

Did the same method as Kurt, as some of us "old-timers'" early posts aren't part of the current database...

First thread I started, was also the first time I was honored to "meet" Warren...man there are a lot of names that no longer post :(

Wow, reading what I posted makes me realize how little I knew when I was 19...

However my first post (apparently) was an hour and 14 minutes earlier here, with what was probably stating the obvious...damn kids :D

I'd been doing quite a bit of searching - reading before - I had a 1990 C2 Targa and got the drift that it was the bastard child of the Porsche world (No fuchs, ugly bumpers and a Targa to boot!)

Really, fastpat, tabs and me in the same breath? ;) :D

I am so apolitical that I'm just white bread.
