I also have a G23 that I am not sure that I have ever fired.... I wish I could trade it for a .38 lightweight 5 shot...

Glocks are popular because they are easy for retards to shoot. At least that is my opinion.

But back to the G27, it is a very capable concealable weapon. Decent capacity and like another guy said, you can carry extra high capacity mags in your vehicles and if the situation presents itself, you can pop in a full size mag and have the added stability.

If Honda made a gun, it would be a Glock...
I'll take that into consideration.... seems like everyone has a different opinion, makes it hard to make a deision, why the 38?

I would like to shoot a glock for comparison. I had shot an XD and when it came time to buy the XD SC met all my requirements and I was comfortable with it.
When I was looking at guns preparing to purchase my first, I shot a Glock 9mm and an XD 9mm. Honestly, the feel and experience of shooting both was nearly identical. I shot both back to back to back and had a hard time choosing which I preferred. In the end, I couldn't put my finger on why, but there was something that I liked better about the XD.

I HAD one I carried for years but I had the grip extensions and G35 clips loaded in it.

That was the only way I liked using it. I really don't like the subcompact handle at all.

Switched it for a S+W colt commander close. It rocks.

I carry the compact G23 and my wife carries the subcompact G27.
I like the analogy about Glocks being like Hondas, pretty much sums them up!
The thing that amazes me is that going smaller and shorter in barrel length doesn't seem to negatively effect accuracy on our Glocks...........the little ones shoot just as well as the larger ones.

This old story out of Oklahoma.

Seems a guy cruises thru a stop sign, or whatever, and gets pulled over by a local policeman. Guy hands the cop his driver's license, insurance verification, plus his concealed carry permit.

"Okay, Mr. Smith," the cop says, "I see your CCW permit. Are you carrying today?"

"Yes, I am."

"Well then, better tell me what you got."

Smith says, "Well, I got a .357 revolver in my inside coat pocket. There's a 9mm semi-auto in the glove box. And, I've got a .22 magnum derringer in my right boot."

"Okay," the cop says. "Anything else?"

"Yeah, back in the trunk, there's an AR15 and a shotgun. That's about it."

"Mr. Smith, are you on your way to or from a gun range...?"

"Nope."

"Well then, what are you afraid of...?"

"Not a damn thing"

In my NV CCW class the instructor wore black slacks and a golf shirt, walked up to me and told me he was going to hand me a few sidearms for me to clear and pass around the room. He pulled 10, yes 10, handguns out from under his clothing. He was just slightly printing from one Glock. The rest were unnoticeable.

Steve,

I personally find the double stack width is too much for easy concealed carry. This is why I like the 3", short grip, 1911. I have a Colt Defender and it actually will go in my jeans pocket.

Take the Springfield you have, and try to conceal it. Now look reducing it's length by .75 inch and the magazine by, about the same. THw width doesn't change. My 1911 is 2 inches shorter than a standard 5" barrel and the grip is almost 1 inch shorter. It is a compact little guy.

And for summer carry, you need to think smaller than the Springfield. My Keltec is always there.

Finally, make sure that what you carry can handle the humidity and sweat of Houston. I've had to nickle plate my Keltec (Barrel, slide etc) to make it not rust!

My original thought was a single stack 9mm compact of some sort, sort of like a Kahr P-9 or PM-9.

In Winter, if I wear a jacket or coat, it is belt carry with either:

Full Size 1911
Compact 1911
Full Size High Power

In summer and places where I can't wear the jacket, I have the Keltec with me.

The Kahr's are nice pistols. If you don't have the money, you might think about a Keltec PF-9.

I've heard a bunch about the PF-9, but never really looked at them.

The main difference between the Kahr and the Keltec and the compact XDM is the thickness. It looks like it's somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3" which doesn't really sound like much, but...

Decisions, decisions.

If I carried a Glock (not saying I do) it would be a G30 (not saying it is) which Glock calls a sub-compact but is really more the size of a compact. (this part is true)

I thought I wanted a baby Glock for carry until I tried the Ruger LCP and Taurus TCP sized guns on for size. These truly are easily carried in front or rear jean pockets. Anything even fractions of an inch bigger make everyday carry (especially in summer) a hassle in my opinion. I doubt I will ever toy with the idea of buying another mid-sized "compact" again. If I think I need something bigger than the .380 mouse gun for a particular occasion, I will simply carry my full size Glock.

I've got a full size XDM, I've been thinking of selling it to fund the purchase of a compact (which is about the size of a subcompact with a slightly longer barrel). But, it is bigger than stuff like the LPC, TCP, P3AT, etc...

Have an ankle holster and a clipdraw for my G26. Haven't tried carrying with either yet, as I haven't traveled to a state where I am legally able to do so since getting my FL CCW.

Order Clipdraw - The Original Clipdraw for Glocks
