I Hate This Time of Year

Not Christmas.

Winter.

We're on day four of solid cloud cover. The last two days the clouds have been so thick it seems like dusk at noon. Just crappy, cold, dark weather.

And it gets worse. Every year in January-February, we get a stretch of 20-30 days of cloud cover. No partial sun, just a month of clouds.

Clouds are fine. It's the freezing temperatures that I could do without.

If we had snow on the ground, I'd really be pissed.

Chris,

I keep this time of the year as short as possible Dec, 1 fo Feb 28th. March 1st, is my unofficial 1st day of Spring.

Using my calender, winter is almost 1/3 over.

I haven't gotten to the point of hating it yet, but every year it gets a little harder to take. I spent last December in Mexico, looking to go to Portugal for February, I have so much work to do I may not be able to pull it off. Getting out of the country and getting warm for a few weeks helps. BTW it's foggy and about 20 degrees here, with 1" of snow.

One of the weird things about cloud cover--it makes it much warmer. We hit 37 yesterday. We've typically had a high in the low 20's/high teens when it's been sunny.

It was one of the things I hated about upstate New York. From November though January it was day after day of overcast gray skies. February would bring brilliant blue skies, and a high of 10 F.

look at it this way Chris, as of yesterday the days will be getting longer the nights shorter. So it'll be over soon. And yeah, the cold makes me ache all over. 6 to 8 years and I start begging eithe Arizona or Texas to let me in.

It's always fun to have someone visiting Minnesota in January. They'll wake up in the morning and see a bright (and I mean bright) sunny day. Then put on some shorts and a sweatshirt and head out for a run only to find that sunshine does NOT equal warm.

The cloudless days are the absolute coldest with temps falling way below zero F.

Only good thing is that yesterday was the shortest daylight day of the year! Everyday we will get a bit more daylight.

I work for a company with HQ in Scahumburg. I try not to go out there at all this time of year. F'ing miserable. That Bears/Vikings game the other night reminds me why I don't live there.

Every winter we get at least one period of 30+ consecutive days of rain.

Cloud cover without liquid water falling from the sky qualifies as a "nice day", in the winter, here, where soggy people live, or try to.
