Believe it or not, the Boxster seems to be pretty DIY friendly. It's easier to get to the top of the motor than a 911, and access to most stuff is easy from the bottom. They're dirt cheap to buy, and pretty damn reliable. I love mine.

The "Boxter" is about to become the bargain buy of the Porsche world. (If it isn't already)
I'm thinking.... As a daily to replace my aging VW Golf. For me it makes a lot of sense. My kids are grown and I don't need the room any more. Water cooled Porsche with Air conditioning, Proper working heater, Power Steering and the rest. Modern engine management system. Good fuel economy. What's not to like? Well there is the "girly" aspect top the car... Which I don't agree with. It's a well balanced sports car that can be used daily. I'd prefer it over a Mazda MX5 (Miata) or Honda S2000 any day of the week. Anything to ease the burden of ownership would be very welcome. So I give Wayne's book the thumbs up... He'll sell tens of thousands. ![]() Meanwhile, I'll still have my 78 SC hot rod...

Once you have an OBD cable and appropriate software you don't need the dealer.

I would argue that it's already the best deal going. For $10k you can get a very solid driver quality Boxster or a ragged out 911SC, the Boxster will be more reliable, faster, handle better, and can easily be driven daily. Not into convertibles? Get the factory hardtop, they're easy to find used for $1k or less.

The Boxster is the new 944.
Cheap entry price, lots of bang for the buck, tons of fun! Just be careful as a major repair will "total" the car.

Who was stupid enough to give a thread plugging a book by our host a one star rating?

The same douche that votes on all of these threads? I can't say I've ever been compelled to vote on a thread.

This thread is awesome. Voted 5 stars.
Actually, I had not realized that this book was already out. I'll probably add it to my next pelican order. I am seriously considering ditching my 911 for a boxster.

Holy Smokes Matt!
You have pretty much owned 1 of every car I am interested in. I will have to solicit your opinion next time I get the urge for change. Mike |

![]() I actually bought this Boxster to sell, it was a bargain that I couldn't resist. I've been so impressed in it that I'm going to sell my supercharged 318ti and find another as a daily driver. It's simply a superb car, there's nothing in the $10k price range that comes close. |
