Extended the Iphone 3GS battery life considerably...wow!
I have 4 e-mail accounts linked to the phone, and I use to fetch very 15 minutes. I also started to turn 3G off when not using it to pull data from the web.
Before, my phone wouldn't make it through the night when not on a charger, from a full charge! Now the battery drops maybe 5% overnight! I can almost go the whole day without recharging if I'm not surfing. I just manually fetch all e-mail and use the celluar network when not at home or at the office. Don't feel bad... the battery on the Samsung Galaxy S doesn't want to last from the time I get up to the time I go to sleep. It spends most of it's time being charged.

This is a problem on all the modern smartphones. They are making them smaller, and more powerful. The battery tech just can't keep up....

iphone 4 has a lot better battery than previous 1's. Apple is posting Solar patents....watch ur "brightness" adjustment, it can drain a lot of power

Really, unless one is surfing the web or using NAV, there is no need to activate 3G or 4G. The mail gets to the phone on the basic cellular network just fine. When I'm at home, the 3G gets turned off and I use wifi. Makes a big difference. of course not setting the phone to talk to mail servers every 15 minutes make a big difference too.

are you doing a full charge once a week? you need to do that some to keep them up to snuff. dont interupt it while it is in a full charge session. mine is at 88% right now and it has been off the charger 7hrs.

- Push off - 3G off - WiFi off - Bluetooth off - GPS (location services) off - Screen brightness lower I wish there were a convenient way to turn all of this stuff on and off at once, with a single tap, instead of having to individually do each one. The battery life on my iPhone 4 is notably better than my iPhone 3G (not 3GS) was. Still not "great". I don't think any smartphone has gotten "great" battery life yet.

My 3GS battery lasts 2-3 days easily. I do the nromal check my email lots of time a day, make some phone calls, , of course FB and some internet.

I was using two tracking services, updating FB all day, taking pix and vid on my iPhone 4. Battery was full in the morning, 10% by about 3.15 this afternoon. My 3G would have probably died by late morning. I think the battery life is very adequate on the 4, all things considering. I did turn off wifi though. Didn't need it searching all day.

When I'm using my phone in the field a lot, I use a battery extender case from mophie.com you can get them at the AT&T store. Turning off that stuff helps a lot as well.

Why not carry a spare battery?
I find keeping wifi off and adjusting the screen backlighting helps onmy smart phones.

Because a battery extender is hardly larger than a spare battery, and you can charge it and the phone's internal battery at the same time, and use the extender without having to shut down the phone, and get almost two full recharges from one extender, and . . .
The complaint that some phones have internal batteries doesn't make too much sense to me. |
