Now in 993 land ...
|
Looks like they took a completely rusted out roller SWB T, replaced the floors and the front clip with tubing and some sheet metal and put a VW drivetrain in it. I don't see what the big deal is. If they want to chop it up, more power to them. Most likely that car would have been on the junk heap otherwise.
As mentioned above, "cool" with the VW crowd can mean a lot of things. It sure looks like a cheap way to have some fun. I can't imaging this fetching more than $5k. G |

That front end - the way it is narrowed - looks to be drag race inspired

I see what he was going for and I dig it. Parts of it are completely stupid but overall, kinda a cool look. I would never want to own it or even drive it though.

Is he aware of what happens when you take a fast turn in a vehicle with tricycle inspired wheel layout?

I think its cool. Its not what I'd have done, certainly, but that doesn't mean its not cool. My least favorite part is the engine grill.
Reminds me of this... ![]()

I love the look... But it's fake.
I get it... Anti "bling" and it's cool but it's still fake. So you'd never see me dead in one of these. Now an unrestored 911 or 356? That's entirely different.

I'm extremely open minded and love rat rods...
This, not so much... YMMV

It's a VW Rat Rod with a 911 body.
If art is supposed to challenge our sensibilities, then I think this succeeds.

1) I think it's really just a cheap/free way for his not-very-attractive girlfriend/model to get her pics in front of millions of people (once that auction hits all of the forums, Jalopnik, etc). Selling the "car" is secondary. Hell, the link to the "build" goes to a page full of her showing off her underwear.
2) I like seeing the slammed VWs, and I can see this car having that "ultra outlaw/artcar" kinda thing going, but those front wheels need to be out 8 more inches. They took that too far. 3) I'm quite sure that chain is actually plastic. Yup, I sure as hell hope so...

I dunno, I think it's kind of neat. Not my first choice, but interesting none the less. It's a low budget rat rod built w/ a porsche shell. Would it be a abomination if a different body was dropped on it?

The girl isn't that bad. I bet in real life she might be rather cute. She has a decent body.
As for the 'car', heck of a thing to do to a car. Do ya think the owner just ever wondered...

I'd like to take it for a spin. The one in the red livery.
The blue one fits one of my favorite advertisement remarks: "Ready for restoration."
