Excellent summary, AirKuhl. What the techies don't get is that this is a consumer product and open/closed systems and Android vs iOS are not as relevant as "can I use it out of the box and is it easy to do the cool stuff I bought it for?"

Wait until late March; there will be a crapload of iPads on ebay and elsewhere for pennies on the dollar as people dump them for the iPad2.

Kinda' like you can pick up an iPhone 3GS for nothing now - they're still excellent phones but they're not the iPhone4.

I just sold my 3G S on Craigslist for $375 and had 5 backups behind the first guy to show up with cash. I wouldn't call that "nothing."

I do like the iPhone 4. What I like better is that on Verizon, it actually works very well as a phone.

Industrial design is one thing - the apps are another. Here's a game-changer:

Apple - iPad - From the App Store - Play and record music with GarageBand.

The iPad is already making serious inroads with musicians and is changing the way that music is *made*, not just consumed. The implications for performance and education are striking.

Unfortunately I don't think the iPad1 has the horsepower to run this, nor does it have the gyros to deal with the touch sensitivity. But such is progress.

The Apple refurb outlet is dynamic.

It displays what's available real time.

So if only 1 of an item and it''s purchased it goes away while new stuff is being added.

It's in a constant state of flux.

I don't think that's what he's running onto. I still show the low price. Maybe it's because of where he's coming from?

Ipad2 with camera means I can Skype or Facetime with my parents and hand it off to my daughter to Skype with them as well. 10 hours battery time with the faster processor sounds great too. Only thing worth looking forward to for this birthday.

You'll have to wait for iPad3 for SD card slots. Have to leave something for the next version.

I completely agree that too many techies miss that. But I also think they do get what is going on, mainly a lot of processing going on with a lightweight OS, be it iOS, Android, or even WP7. I am not a Motorola fan but I think their Atrix with a laptop dock is the wave of the future.

And once again MS is missing the boat talking up Win8 for tablets instead of porting WP7. Good grief!

I'm glad you guys understand this stuff, as when it comes to this type of stuff, I don't have a fricking clue
But I am thinking an iPad could be a useful tool for an upcoming project, being able to photo document & type info right into it....

Meanwhile the B&N Color Nook is on sale via eBay for $200, and takes Android 3.0 really easily...

I'll use the extra $200 to buy a differrent 'droid tab in a year or so...

That is a FAIL. We had it WM6 caleed the Redfly. It was better to get a Netbook.

Well, as much as I like WM6 -from the enterprise perspective- it was a failure in the larger market. It was too PC-centric. In addition, carriers discouraged "tethering" when the Redfly came out. And, didn't the iPhone come out about the same time as the original Redfly? In other words, too much has changed for that to be a relevant comparison.

You may not be happy with that.

Fragmentation is an issue.

We have a product on Android Marketplace right now.

We have Tegra chipped retail tablets for final QA.

We have XOOM and another brand that I won't mention.

Same app on both is a night and day difference.

On the Xoom the product runs great, on the other tablet, (with the same exact Tegra chipset) it runs like complete ass.
