Six pack or a bottle of wine was 99 cents. Cigs were forty cents per pack.

It was about 40 cents a gallon when I started to drive. But my family owned an oil company with about 16 stations, so I never had to pay! Just went to the warehouse in town and pumped my own from there! I can remember my grandfather getting so mad at me and my three brothers for not writing down how much we pumped! Tank would go dry and he would be pissed. Boy those were the days, never had to worry about fuel cost and getting premium for free. We sold the oil company and all the stations when I was in college, so away went that wonderful perk! I tell my kids about it and they can't believe how good we had it as kids!

Lowest I ever saw was $0.13 a gallon during a gas war in Blue Hole, SD in 1970 on my way out west from Ft. Belvoir, VA to Ft. Lewis, WA. And I had just filled up my 1968 VW in the last town at $0.29 a gallon. Got about $0.09 of gas 'cuz I just had to stop!

In 1970, when I was 16 y/o, I paid as little as 17.9 cents/gal. Normal was more like 25 cents. Yep everyone chipped in a quarter or two and we'd ride around in my 59 Chevy Bel Air all night.

I remember 19 cents a gallon at a new fangled place call "Coin Opp".
It was a self service station that used token or a quarters to operate the pump. We collected bottles to buy gas and "Sunshine" the orange verity. 4 gallons of gas got us to the beach and "Sunshine" took us to an entirely different place. ![]()

Looks like Sidney's $3.50 won't be topped or that John's 13 cents will be bettered.
BTW, I was filling up gas nearby Chimney Rock in North Carolina several months ago and the gas station had one of those really old pumps with the lever on the side. I got out to fill up the car and was absolutely confused. I couldn't swipe my credit card nor were there any buttons on the pump! My dad just laughed at me. |

1977, I believe gas was $1.30 a gallon but we had to wait in lines at the gas station to get it!

I remember the Gulf commercial where the guy with his girl friend pull into the station and ask for 25 cents of Good Gulf. The attendant puts it in and does the windshieldwashingcheckingoiland tiresthing...... The kid tries to get him to stop but he does it all. They dig through their change and come up with another 25 cents to buy.

.19 in high school. But I was buying gas for karts and mini bikes 5 years before that. I can't remember any cheaper.
What's a movie? I bought a 45 RPM record each week for .99. iTunes is what, .99 these days? |

The lowest I remember was about 25 cents. Stations around here would have gas wars and give away collector drinking glasses and stuff to get you to buy their gas. Station attendants always pumped the gas for you and "checked your dipstick" (checked the oil.)
I had a 1960 VW Beetle and the gas filler was under the hood. You lifted the hood and an automatic prop held it open. The attendants didn't have any trouble getting it open, but to close it you had to lift it first to unlock the prop (like a 356). Way too many attendants just leaned on it until the hood bent, so I would jump out of the car to close it so they didn't bend up my hood. One time my girlfriend was driving and just as I jumped out to grab the hood, he asked her, "Can I check that dipstick for you ma'am" She said, "No, it's OK. He always acts like that." That was 45 years ago.

.79 cents at the Beacon in Carmichael...I will never forget the day. Five bucks would go a long way in my 69 VW bus!

I feel your pain, it's getting close to $4 a gallon here too. It was $3.90 last week when I filled up.
