Someone is stealing my WiFi.

Can I have some fun with them? Just pulled up finder on my mac, and found another computer showing up in the shared folder. Definitely not mine, I live alone here....

This is a WPA2 secured network, how the hell did they get in?

i seem to remember there being a command to send a message over the network to a specific computer that pops up the message in a command prompt window.

What service? What router?

Assign yourself a static IP then block all traffic for any other IP.

Log into your router and manually boot them. When they come back boot them again. Keep doing it and they'll stay away.

Changed the password, fixing to power the router down while I am gone. The attached devices shows my printer, my airport expresses, and a device simply called Michelle, but not my computer?

Its a netgear WNDR3700, and I can't figure out how to boot a device

I lock down our wireless by only allowing our MAC addresses to access the network.

Big, big, big problem....

The IP that is showing for "michelle" is the same ip address that AirPort is telling me my computer is logged on as.... And when I click the name "michelle" in the shared space, it tells me that volume is available locally on my computer... WTF? I was on an unsecure network for about 2hrs this morning....

Yep! MAC filtering, WPA2 and shutting off WiFi broadcasting...(You'll wanna change your SSID AFTER you stop broadcasting)

It's still not 100% secure, but it's pretty close...

Turn your computer off, restart your router, and log into your router with your iPhone and then go into your device panel and see if the device is still there.

Did you buy a refurb computer or a used one? I know sometimes when we image machines (several times over) and name them differently, sometimes the original name shows up in the router panel for that IP address. When you click on Michelle, and it says the drive is available locally, I would assume that your computer for whatever reason shows up as "Michelle". Also, go into System Preferences -> Sharing, and see if anything is checked off that would indicate a local folder is being shared.

No one is stealing your wifi. Any shared computer type resource shows up in there, wireless printers, etc. Get the MAC address of the item listed in finder and find out which device this is.

I could account for all the other devices except the one showing up as "michelle". It has the same IP address that my computer is on... So I am not sure what is going on.

I rebooted the Macbook and the Router. Now under the devices it shows as Macbook Pro and then a random number... So WTF! The "michelle" is gone in the sharing pane as well...

And yes, I have turned the airport expresses off at the moment... And the wifi is off on my iPhone
