My 8 yr old's X-ray of her teeth. Uh oh.

So here we have a head-on shot of my daughter's mouth. Teeth everywhere. Teeth on top of teeth. Teeth impacted up by her nostrils. Teeth pushing other teeth out at weird angles. She has to have two teeth pulled in a couple weeks to make room for teeth that have none. Then we start two years of head gear and spacers. Then on to braces for a couple of years. The human body is insane.

I was fascinated by this image so I thought I'd share.

Looked like mine. They pulled 4 "regular" teeth which made room, braces for straightening. NP!

Did her dentist just giggle with glee about his new 911 Turbo he can buy now?

That is gonna be expensive.

Just think a child with those teeth born 100 years ago would be some kind of miserable. Be glad you live in the age of modern painless dentistry.

I've been a dentist for over 20 years and have come across some real doozies.

After treatment I am confident you will be glad you intervenied early.

My daughter had the same thing going on. She start out at about the same age, 8. She has had 5 or 6 teeth pulled to make room for the teeth sideways above. She is now 13 and on her second set of braces, and her teeth look great. Be diligent with the timeline your dentist suggests and your girl will have a great smile in the end.

Let me fix that for you...

Having the same issues as a kid, had 4 teeth pulled for the same type of deal.

OK, it is not really painless, but try it with NO drugs at all. That would be much much much much worse, and real pain!

It's got to be timed so they're straightening permanent teeth, and pulling baby teeth while the jaw grows.

I have no doubt it hurt. I had 3 wisdom teeth pulled. I can't imaging they pulled your teeth without a Novocain injection first. That would be torture otherwise.

And if you were 4 at the time I suspect your memories are a little different than reality. I am not discounting your pain. Like Clinton said, " I feel your pain" but unless you were raised in the wilderness buy some very strange parents I suspect you had some pain meds. Maybe not enough, but something.

I was 11... And yeah, no Novocaine because my parents had known "allergic reactions" to it. "Here, take a couple ibuprofens..."

Is it any wonder why I despise orthodontics?

That sucks. In the end it was still better than no tooth pulling and the pain of a tooth sticking out sideways into your lip.

I am amazed there is no substitute pain med that would have worked. At least a good dose of laughing gas!

We started this proccess a year ago with our eight year old son. I take him in next week to get bands & a bar on his upper teeth to keep them growing in straight. I hope he takes better care of his teeth than my daughter, I was pissed when she got her tongue pierced. I spent a fortune on her teeth.
