All put a lump in my throat for the same reason. They're all touching reminders about how fast time goes by. Feels like just yesterday I was that child...

Cat Stevens has written songs that get covered a lot (The First Cut is the Deepest).
But his "Father and Son" just kills me.

While we were pregnant with the boys we would refer to them as Bert & Ernie (never liked baby A & baby B), we came back to the room the next morning after we lost Joey (Ernie) and this was playing on the TV.

Many excellent choices. Great.

My choice is "Dance with my Father" by Luther Vandross.

Thanks for the music.

There is an old songwriter's adage that says you should never throw away a good, unused lyric, and that was the case with "Arthur's Theme". The song was co-written by Chris, Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager, and Peter Allen (Liza Minelli's ex-husband). Carole and Peter had previously written an unreleased song which contained the line "when you get caught between the moon and New York City". They made good use of that great line in this song which went to #1 in August of 1981 and won the Academy Award for Best Song from the film "Arthur" starring Dudley Moore, Liza Minelli, and Sir John Gielgud.

As a side note, Dudley Moore was quite an accomplished musician and songwriter himself, and when he died reportedly his last words were "I can hear the music all around me".

RIP Dudley Moore.....

Arthur's Theme - In 1983 I participated in a 8 month student exchange program in Cambridge England. The home that took me in was run by a widow. She was in her 50's and looked beaten down. Her husband died of cancer 5 years prior. About once a month she would drink too much wine and play 45's (singles) on her turntable in the parlor. This song was always what she ended with. I can't hear that song without thinking of her. Bless you Mrs. Pick.

Alison Krauss - what an angelic voice and face. Love her.

A few more contributions from me -

Leonard Cohen' s "Hallelujeh"

Leonard Cohen's "Ain't No Cure For Love"

Leonard Cohen's "Tower of Song"

Zachary Oberzan acoustic version of "Suzanne"

U.S. Navy Hymn or Eternal Father, Strong to Save by any large choir

U. S. Marine Corps Hymn by the Marine choir

here's another...

When the wife was splitting and I was cleaning out our apartment, this played over and over. I spent about four hours just lying in the middle of the living room floor with it looping.

Dunno why I haven;t seen this one yet..

Can't forget Ray...

OMG. Don't do what I just did. I won't even post the links. Too dangerous.

I'm trying to train my singing voice, and thought I'd like to see, again, Whitney Houston's version of I Will Always Love You. For training purposes. I'm worse than most women when it comes to puddling up and.....I did. Oh well I thought, I might as well also re-experience her Superbowl version of the Star Spangled Banner, so I clicked on that. Something got in my eye and when my vision cleared, I noticed a link to Susan Boyle's famed Britain's Got Talent performance which I had never seen. It had something like 30,000,000 hits. Like an idiot (more accurately, like a moth to a flame) I clicked.

Saved by my box of Kleenex, I pulled myself together long enough to notice some six year-old girl (Connie Talbot) in that same competition whose performance had 101,000,000 hits. I clicked.

Rain fell. Save yourselves. Do not make this same mistake.
