Interesting topic that I've been thinking about as well. I recall reading in another thread that there are very few safes that cannot be easily cracked in a matter of minutes by a true pro, therefore you should focus on one that provides adequate fire protection and install it such that an amateur cannot easily remove it. Any truth to that? Obviously building your own bank vault would be the exception, but most of us (me) aren't keen to spend $25k for a safe.

i have a Sturdy. bought it after Jim's recommendation. i didnt get a huge safe because my house and budget are both small. mine is hidden and attached to the floor. can a pro crack it? hell yes! probably pretty easily. i got it to keep the meth-head out of it. i have extra theft insurance for guns and jewelry. we get burglarized by a pro..i look at the bright side..my wife and i BOTH get to go fun shopping!! i hit the gun stores, she hits the jewelry stores.,.we meet somewhere for lunch i guess.
the Sturdy is better than any safe i found at any box store. it is simple, ugly, gray, boring. perfect. fun ordering a safe. TIP! if you order one..get them to use a black dial with white numbering. mine is silver with black numbering. difficult to see in low light and weak eyeballs. i have to wear glasses and a headlamp. retarded.
