I was just thinking about my post and laughing. Laughing at the thought of not doing what your heart tells you to do. Yeah, right. Ask these guys when was the last time they did that.

Okay, it's time for a little break from all the seriousness... here's HHI944 and his lady spending a little quality time together on a quiet part of The Island.

When I was in my thirties, I dated a woman in her fifties. It was the hottest experience of my life, but it did not last and the separation was painful. Now, my wife is 10 years older than me. It works.

My regrets are about what I did not do.
Wow... from your posts I thought you were a lot younger... your an old fart like me!

RE: Regrets about what I did not do... I played trumpet from elementary school into high school. Being the lazy underachiever I was in my youth I never took it seriously... now I'm into jazz and kicking myself for not working at it.

What were we talking about? Oh yeah love... one step at a time... mind you none of us are taking into account HER opinion... if you spring "will you marry me?" too soon she might freak and run away.

I hate to rain on this but I think in ten years time you will regret this if you go ahead. When it's all fallen apart you may have missed the boat as far as settling down with someone your own age. You said you don't have any interest in having kids but most 26yr olds feel that way. That may change over time.

Also, since you firmly stated that there is no interest in sex, I'm not sure what there is to gain by having anything more than a nice friendship? I know that is a bit crude, but you already have a great friendship, and you already get to spend time together and enjoy each others company.
Whatever you do, don't waste too much time on it. The years fly by and before you know it you will be half way through your thirties.

The only other thing to add, is to those who say things like "you only regret the things you didnt do, not the things you did do". Actually, you can regret both! Lots of people regret things they did.

I don't. I made some mistakes, sure. Glorious mistakes. Even sad ones that affected other people. But you know....that's life. It's not supposed to be lived perfectly. It's supposed to be lived passionately. I stand by my previous statement. My regrets are all about the things I didn't do. Mercifully, I did most of the things I had the chance to do, and am glad I did. But there were mistakes. Mistakes of omission, not commission.

Scott......get your trumpet out and find some jazz musicians to jam with. I've recently returned to playing bass. Quit sniveling. Play!

You don't regret any of those? Don't wish you'd done it differently now that you look back?

I'm not saying you should, I just not sure I agree with the notion that you can ONLY regret things you didn't do. I know because I do sometimes!

It's not that there's no interest in sex, it is just not a primary factor in my attraction. That said, she has an absolutely smoking body and I certainly wouldn't say no...

A little smoke is common with that kind of mileage. Might need a rebuild. Get a PPI.

At the time I didn't want to play guitar cuz it was the 70's and everyone played guitar... later I reneged and took up guitar to meet chicks... then found it was easiest to get in a band playing bass. Over the last two decades played in a bunch of armature bands. When I got married (long distance relationship, lots of time and $$$) I put the bass down but I'm trying to pick it up again (are you reading this HH944?)

Also note HH944, the guy I bought my 944 from... was selling it because he was getting married.

Again, we all recommend you at least date the lady for a year (good advice even if she was your age) to explore how things work as lovers.

After a year, before you get married, have a long talk about sex and money, 90% of arguments are about that.

Best of luck!

I'm gonna throw out something that I don't think has been mentioned before...the big "M", and I ain't talkin' about marriage either. I began seeing my ex-g/f when she was 47 and I was a youngin' (39). We had a great relationship for about 4-5 years, but by the time we broke up after almost 9 years, I didn't even recognize her as the same person anymore. I realize it doesn't affect everyone the same way, but when they call it "the change of life"...well, there's a reason . That being said, go for it...with eyes wide open...good luck!!!

ps: When we broke up (her decision), I was still basically the same guy I'd always been...her, not so much. Still no regrets however....

We are going to need a picture soon I think. Be sure to have her sign a release of some kind though first.

That's something to think about, no doubt.

I probably have a twisted definition of "regret." If I had it to do all over again.....there are probably some things I would do differently. If I only knew then what I know now.

I am defining regret as looking back at the things I should have and could have done differently. The things I didn't do were things I could have done. The things I did do.....were inevitable. Like the OP guy. Moths to a flame. The best we can do is to recommend a step-by-step approach.

For what should be obvious reasons, I'm really not willing to post pictures until after I've talked to her. She's still recovering from being sick and I'm not willing to add any stress to her life until she's back on her feet 100%

That said, there's a pretty good chance you don't know her, I'll PM you a pic or two so you can vouch to the board that she's a looker. My only request is that if you know her, you don't say anything to her, I don't want her hearing anything but from me.
