My buddy sent some photos of the 2019 Peahi Challenge a couple weeks back. The waves the young guys are paddling into today are just mind-numbing.

In the early '70s, we'd often sit and watch this wave, day-dreaming of the day they'd be ridden. (My first house was in Peahi, 3 miles up the coast from the surf break.)

Lordy......those aren't waves.....they're mountains!

Funny graph of the headaches Baz 😂

Here are some highlight videos of the Jaws contest.

Amazing paddleing into those waves. You can see them getting hung up at the top while taking off. Then having to do a top turn as soon as the board gets settled, on some of them to be able to make the big section. WOW!

Love it Baz! When I was in college there was a lass who regularly surfed with us. She was really good and I loved watching her moves. Just a surfing pal and never dated her like a dumbazz.

Phew. And what a lot of people don't appreciate is Velzyland is only one or two feet deep, and lava/coral on the bottom.

Sort of related....I spoke to my friend who lives on Kuais. She told me that you can only be on the beach if you're walking, running or surfing. Seems reasonable to me.

Porsche-O-Phile 04-13-2020 08:07 AM

Yea - I don’t understand the wholesale beach closures that seem to be going on in places. If people are spread out (like you always are doing those sorts of activities) what’s the harm?

If you’re closer than 6’ to someone else on a board that’s usually a lead-up to a fight! Lol!

flatbutt 04-13-2020 08:14 AM

that was delightful. I can only imagine that shooting a tube like that is waaay more fun than challenging a 30' monster, but I understand adrenaline too.
