Thanks

I went to Cancun with my family in early 2000s. I never thought of it as a surf spot. Right in front of our hotel was an excellent three to four foot beach break. The hotel didn't rent surfboards, so I bought a bodyboard and some fins and had a blast. I doubt I would lug a surfboard down there, but it's certainly worth looking into the surf forecast and Google a surf shop that might rent you a board.

Always rubbing it in! Baz you dirty dog. Besides, stuffing a near 60 year-old body into a 4/3mm wetsuit and jumping into 59 degree water is very comfortable. And...I caught at least three waves with less than five people dropping in on me yesterday :(

Honestly, I'm getting too old for the big swells now, for three reasons. 1. No patience for the crowds anymore (and too old to make physical threats). 2. Getting out of the wet wetsuit practically dislocates my bad shoulders and hurts like a mofo. 3. Getting caught inside on big days never used to bother me. Yesterday I fell on take-off on the first wave of a 10' set. The next two waves put me in shear terror. I rode in on my belly nauseous and went to Mondos, where its smaller and slower, with all the other old men on SUPs.

You're still chargin' Craig and that's what's important...old man!!! SmileWavy

This is a repeat but ran across it last night and was stoked to watch it again - big Rabbit fan here!

I must be getting old too. I bought his and hers matching  boogie boards and got out yesterday with the GF. Had a lovely time. No wind, sun beating down - it's summer here, and a nice small tidy swell coming in. There was even a couple of titty girls on the beach.

Hey Guys!

Been a long time member here on Pelican but never ventured into the Off-Topic section. Very surprised to see an almost 100 page surfing thread on the first page!

I am heading to Kauai for the rest of the winter this Wednesday to surf. I would love some tips if anyone has any. Staying in Princeville.

Mahalo!

HI Bravoaloha, long time Kauai surfer here, now living in Florida.
My family is still in Haena. Thats my home zone.

I'd be glad to answer any questions that I can.
What kind of surfing are you looking to do? Lots of choices on the north shore.

Feel free to PM me your Ph #. And we can chat.

Cheers Richard

The best I can tell, this is a wave caused by the train running through a flooded area. If any of you know different, please say so.

Very cool regardless.

That looks like the new wave pool that Slater is involved in.

Pretty amazing skimboard dry launch.

Since its emergence into the public consciousness, Namibia’s Skeleton Bay Has been churning out a steady stream of highlights, captured from every perspective imaginable. This year, Koa Smith, the man behind the internet-melting POV of the wave back in 2014, returned looking to outdo himself and came up trumps with this unbelievable 8 barrel wave.

My legs were burning just watching that  Thanks for that Baz.

Life is not fair. When I was young and healthy enough to ride a wave like that (and survive the food, water, and parasites of western Africa), I did not have the money to travel. No that I have the time and money to travel, I'm too old to do it

There are windows of opportunity in everyone's life, Craig. You have to grab what you can - when you can.

As hard as it is for me to really come to grips that I'll be 66 years old this year - I'm satisfied that no matter what the future may hold for me surfing-wise - I have had some special times in the water - not necessarily at the best surf break in the world - or riding the best waves - in the best conditions - but in my mind - it was plenty good enough to put a big smile on my face and more than what was needed to feed my soul.

There is still much out in front of us......gotta just keep chargin'......SmileWavy
