Umm, very painful. Remembering a cubic meter = a tonne which is about the same weight as a US ton. That's a lot of weight to be hammered by.

Pic of George Kelley aka "Old Man Kelley" - legendary surfing elder here in NSB. George has been gone now for some years but was an institution here - always sat outside on his longboard waiting for the right wave to ride all the way in. He never really steered much or gave way so you had to be on your toes paddling out to avoid getting run over....lol.

He had a wide brimmed hat with a tether on it to keep the sun off his head.

He was an amazing water color artist and a super nice guy. This pic surfaced on FB and I wanted to enshrine it here in his honor...

The Vulcom Pipe pro contest is going on in excellent conditions , today, day 2 of the contest started in very good conditions and is getting better as the day goes on.

Check it out if you have a chance

It's back on today in good but not epic conditions like yesterday.

Let me set the stage for you guys. This El Niño year is producing lots of back to back big to giant swells in the North Pacific. There have been some all time surf events this season. The Paddle in contest at Piahi earlier was exceptional.
Tow in guys and outer reef hunters are going off in the giant swells.

And this contest is presenting some consistent beautiful tubes.
Today the swell is a little smaller and less perfect that the peak of yesterday, but still some 8' + sets coming thru.

I'm watching on a local surf channel on the tube, but both Volcom and Redbull are sharing it online. IF you have time to check it out, take a look at day two highlights!

One of the surprise standout performers is Marko Georgio. Sp? From Uruguay , he is consistently killing it on bigger waves. I'm not so into the surf scene lately, but there is a changing of the guard happening. Lots of new talent on display.

Waves have cleaned up as the day progressed.

That is... Captivating.

Maverick's is on for tomorrow. My daughter is at Half Moon Bay High. We got a group voice mail saying that the kids are not excused from school tomorrow. There will be a lot of absences anyway. Always a big day for our little town.
