Imagine what a wave like that would do to your windsurfing gear.

I've broken two masts in the little stuff

I think simthereens is the word that comes to mind, Bill.
I remember one wipeout that broke every piece but my mast base, but then even the universeal joint was done for. Mast, sail, booms, board, all pieces.
On costly days like that you rescue the remains just to not be littering.

Other days going out for a solid hour of incredible waves and still dry headed.
Great memories.

Cheers Richard

I pulled a couple frames from an early December clip of an outer reef spot off Oahu's North Shore:

Great take off ..

.. but quickly going bad

Today at Maverick's, Half Moon Bay. They were thinking of calling the famous contest today but decided it wouldn't be good enough. It was. Oops.

8'-12' at C Street today boys!!!! I just sent a text dissing my Tue golf partners. I'll see if there's any charge in my GoPro, but I'm heading down now.

Looks inconsistent on the Surfline Surfcam, but you can see how far out guys are sitting. That's enough for me.

Yesterday at Hollywood Beach, CA

Pretty epic, 7-10' per SolSpot, easily double overhead on big sets. I did not paddle out, not in shape for that!! This is a pretty fast and hollow break over shifting sandbars.

Honestly, I'm getting too old for the big swells now, for three reasons. 1. No patience for the crowds anymore (and too old to make physical threats). 2. Getting out of the wet wetsuit practically dislocates my bad shoulders and hurts like a mofo. 3. Getting caught inside on big days never used to bother me. Yesterday I fell on take-off on the first wave of a 10' set. The next two waves put me in shear terror. I rode in on my belly nauseous and went to Mondos, where its smaller and slower, with all the other old men on SUPs.

I have to go to Cancun for an event in Jan. Anyone know much about the surf there? I've never been.

Thanks

I went to Cancun with my family in early 2000s. I never thought of it as a surf spot. Right in front of our hotel was an excellent three to four foot beach break. The hotel didn't rent surfboards, so I bought a bodyboard and some fins and had a blast. I doubt I would lug a surfboard down there, but it's certainly worth looking into the surf forecast and Google a surf shop that might rent you a board.
