Mountain lion killed trying to cross 405 Freeway - latimes.com A young mountain lion killed Tuesday while trying to cross the 405 Freeway near the Getty Center was one of about half a dozen living in the Santa Monica Mountains. "We believe it may have made such a daring crossing attempt possibly because it was being flushed out of the area it was in by another male lion," said Woody Smeck, superintendent of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The 15-month-old male, known as P18, was one of three cubs born last year in the area and had been tracked since it was a few weeks old. Another mountain lion was killed crossing the 405 in the same area three years ago. Authorities have tried to develop paths that allow the lions to cross under freeways safely. | ||

that's a shame. (a shame about the lion, not a shame that it wasn't NS)

I agree. Very sad. I hope they can get those animal underpasses built sooner than the new Mulholland bridge. I love the California native wildlife, especially the cats. I heard there is one on the 118 that worked for another tracked lion. The only lion to cross 405 successfully was this most recently killed guy's dad.

Of course you didn't hit it. You like cats. It's dogs you're targeting.

One was hit a few years ago on the I-5 directly over the hill from my house which adjoins the freeway. I think I saw it once in my back 40, it was huge especially the length of the tail.

I still tell folks Todd's coyote story as a 'you can be doing everything right, and still get screwed' tale.
