I thought that my old Dodge Ramcharger was pretty cool:
![]() Might be the last of the cool SUV's... you know, the trucks built just before they were called SUV's and dumbed down for suburbia.

I really don't get the newer "soft-road" unibody SUVs. Why not just get an AWD wagon? Better to drive on road, better MPG, same cargo capability.

So you are saying the Jeep GC isn't a capable off roader?

I wouldn't classify the Grand Cherokee as a "soft road" SUV, it's more than capable off of the beaten path. I'm speaking more of vehicles like the CRV, RAV4, Jeep Compass, etc. Though considering that it's optimized for the soccer mom I also wouldn't consider it to be "cool".

I personally think that almost all Toyota Land Cruisers are cool, but then I really only care about what I like so it's a moot point. Drive what you like and who cares if it's considered "cool".
TLCs have a purpose-built quality to them, much like a 911. And they share the same bullet-proof atributes and the same rabid following of owners.

To answer the original question: No.
If you want a truck, buy a truck. An SUV is 1/2 a truck - and not necessarily the best 1/2. Ditto for minivans. Hideous things. I have driven many & have never & will never own one. Ian

If I lived in Muckyuktuk, Northern Ontario & hunted seals for sustenance, I'd be all over it.
In a city, I prefer my AWD euro sedan with real snow tires on it. That way I get the best combo of comfort, stability, safety, center-of-gravity etc etc etc. My wife blows by the masses of skidding SUVs whenever it snows. Ian
