David,
I thought about you as I played the drums at church today. I'm glad you're getting better and can't wait until you're playing that bass again!

Thanks Art. I think I'm gonna sell my big red 76 T-bird and pick up a Fender Aerodyne J bass (much lighter) to play for awhile. I can pay off med bills with the change too. You know those bills will be coming in soon. I have a high deductible and the change will cover that. I will still have the natural mahogany T-Bird that is my daily driver for when I can get back to swinging a heavier bat. Then the Fender will be my #2 bass.

Good Milt. Got a good nights sleep up at 6:30. made my own breakfast, showered, assembled a win 94 that needs to be delivered ( it was 2 screws really) and went over my BATF log book to make sure I was up to date. It was the first time I have been downstairs in the work shop since that day. It felt good. I think I'm ready for lunch and a nap now. Baby steps. My neck is still swollen pretty bad and it looks like there may be some kind of packing or such under the skin, or it could just still be swelling from the op. It feels too firm for a vein though. My follow up with the surgeon is thursday. I will find out then I guess. No pain today other than my back from lying in bed so much. Thanks for asking.

Sounds like you're setting an appropriately relaxed pace for yourself. Watch some movies you've been wanting to see. Eat good food. Sleep. Those are the elements of your current duties.

I had my stroke while I was working late in my office on a Friday evening. Earlier, I had gone to meet my travel agent to pick up a bunch of tickets as my entire office needed to fly to do some demos. Once back in my building, I had a hard time walking/standing and had to pull myself along the empty hallway to get to my office. Once there, I tried to do some more work and could not concentrate as the computer screen was blurry. At that time, I either fell asleep or passed out. I got up or came to later on and figured I better get out of my office. I had a hell of a time driving as the lights made things blurry. I went over to my mom's to get something to eat and kind of collapsed there and just wanted to rest. Once there, she called my sister to come over and take a look at me as something was not right. She took me to emergency, where the docs looked at me, did some tests and released me. They were unable to get in touch with my physician to get a health history on me, so they figured I was just hyperventilating. Went to my doc the next day and he said I had a mild stroke and made me drink some blood thinners immediately. As I said before, you were lucky to catch it in time, and taking aspirin was a godsend for you, as it was for me. My blood pressure had been elevated for about 3 weeks prior and I had some nasty headaches so I took a lot of aspirin every day. I believe this is what saved my life and kept the damage to a minimum. My cognitive ability was messed up and my head was really foggy. I could not do simple math calculations. My balance was off as the muscles on my left side were affected so I needed PT for that. Eleven years later, I am healthier, but still have some weakness on the left side. When I had my stroke, I was 35. My father had a stroke in his office when he was 49, fell into a coma and never came out of it. With these experiences, I tell all of you this. If there are any signs you may be experiencing a stroke, get help immediately. Do not stall and think it'll pass or you can see your doctor tomorrow.

There's another good step. Way to go. What's the next project? Nothing too involved, I hope. Les

At 12 days you are past the worst, but that doesn't mean you are out of the woods yet
great.. you'll be fine, but stay vigilant.. nicotine will try and catch you when you least expect it.. I assume you can't drink alcohol at the moment, which is good, stay sober for those first months, as alcohol would weaken the resistance against nicotine.. Once you passed those first months, you'll be fine.. Just keep repeating, "not even just one ciggie, never again"..
