Ducks played 16 freshamen; 8 or 9 Seniors
so..... something to think about for next year BTW - last Rose Bowl win was 1915 or 1917 I will watch Stanford smash the Okies while waiting for Paul so say something nasty on this thread... |

It's all because of me... Every time I had to do something away from the TV, I came back to a Duck touchdown. The whole time I was actually watching the game it looked like Wisconsin had the upper hand. I went away for most of the 4th quarter and when I returned, Oregon was covered in glory and confetti!!
Phil Knight should send me a check.

they did a good job against the monster Auburn team
for the Ducks, they are just happy to get a big bowl game and now on to the big D. game -- Stanford beating the coboys ... and then: Geaux Tigers! |

I bet the over (it was 74) with some trepidation. But, like Oberst, every time I looked away from the TV someone scored again and game ended at 86.

Congratulations to the dux on their win. Lots of good offense in that game.
Stanford also played a great game, except for their kicker who missed three out of four field goals that he should have made and that cost them the game. They kicked the crap out of the okeys, and if they had a decent kicker they would have won by at least 6 points. They didn't choke, their kicker did. I know that because I ACTUALLY WATCHED THE GAME. Earlier this season Orey-gone lost to USC because their kicker missed a last minute field goal. Boise state lost their chance at being undefeated and playing for the national championship because of a missed field goal. Now stanford loses a bowl game (and probably their top 10 ranking) because of missed field goals. I predict that in the off-season the college recruiting priorities will change. Instead of spending all their time going after fine upstanding members of society, they'll focus a little more on scrawny pasty-faced kids who CAN KICK! Sammy, how is it that Stanford "kicked the crap" out of OkSt yet found themselves tied with :03 remaining? Who won that game again?

Sammy, the kicker is part of the team, and he obviously didn't show up to play ball. The part of the game he plats proved very crucial..... He choked, and they LOST.

The kicker is technically part of the team, but saying that the TEAM choked when a place-kicker choked is neither reasonable or accuate. The kicker missed three field goals, and lack of confidence in his abilities influenced the coach into unsucessfully going for it on 4th down at least one other time. If stanford had a better kicker that the coach was confident in, the christmas trees would have gone into the last minute of the 4th quarter with at least a 16 point lead instead of 7, and the 4th quarter would never have ended in a tie. BTW I'm not a Stanford or okey fan. I was not rooting for one team over the other, but was simply watching a ball game. Stanford is in Pac 12 but who can root for a team who's mascost is a guy dressed up like a goofy christmas tree? And what does the heck that have to do with the "cardinal"? if I were a stanford alum I'd have a serious problem with that. Same with orey-gone's constant changing of uniform designs, I remember when football was still a hetero game ![]() ![]() |

It;'s easy to selectively see only the end result and not what happened to get there. I did the same thing when USC barely squeaked by orey-gone because of ONE missed Field goal, but I did that on porpoise to rub it in. I knew what the real deal was. If I were serial about that it'd be a whole different story. |

I feel sorry for that kid hooking both those "easy" field goals. Sammy is correct -- I don't see where some of you are coming from on the USC thing -- Barkley did a great job.
re Wisc. - their players are saying it was not the Duck's speed that did them in, but that the Ducks have a lot of really talented players. It does take an outstanding defense to stop the Ducks, and the only team that really has that is... LSU. Ducks also did very well against Cam Newton/Auburn last year - only a 3 pt. deficit, IIRC after being manhandled by the SEC big boyz for the entire game. I was worried the same would happen against Wisconsin as they have a huge offensive line - NFL sized, and bigger players often can win games if the talent is even close. Wisc. played a pretty good game. Geaux Tigers! |
