Picking up this 06 MCS this weekend to replace the VW GLI I just sold.

I plan on keeping out of the garage just in case it bursts into flames
 Investigation expands: 60,000 Mini Coopers may have power steering problems

Yeah, I was doing some research on them when I was interested. I think the auto-box has some issues, along with the timing chain ramps.

The 07 and newer have the peugot motor and there have been isssues with failing chain tensiors causing rattling noises when cold and sometimes engine failure.
Also the 07-08 MCS Turbo have reports of fires since a heat shield was not installed until 09 NHTSA investigating 2007 and 2008 Mini Cooper S for fire risks Other than that, they are fun to drive

I like! I've been wanting a Mini Cooper S since 2002.. maybe someday
Why'd you ditch the GLI? Was it a mark IV (understandable then or markV?

Looked nice too.. My SIL had a mark IV... it was tiny in back. I have a markV and its been a great car. No MCS though
