Actually.... The 1800 is not the same as the Maxi (unless they called the Maxi an 1800 in Singapore). The 1800's engine was the "B" series BMC (used in a lot of cars since God was a boy). The Maxi was an entirely different engine of either 1500cc or 1750cc.

1800

Maxi.

Anyway, they were both horrible. I worked at a British Leyland garage '69-73. so I know!
I can remember the day the first Marina arrived. It was supposed to compete against the Ford Escort & be the saviour of the company. We took one look at it and decided we better look for new jobs!

'79 Corolla- 2 head gaskets, 2 starters, carb rebuild, brakes made of mousetraps and finally the cat clogged. 10% methanol gas in 1991 made it die all the time and it got bad mileage to top it all off.

Worst car owned..........

It would have to be a toss up between a 1994 Chrysler Concorde and a 1986 Chevrolet Impala station wagon. The Chevy had a design fault in the electrical system that would cause the one (1) ground wire for the entire dash to burn/break leaving all of the hvac, wipers, etc non functional. After 3-4 failures and attempts to get it fixed, gave up and traded the car. Same with the Concorde. If I had not bought an exteded warranty, that one would have cost me thousands! After the Concorde, we switched to Fords and have not had a problem since then.
