Jim - I bought it like that. I was going to use the engine and transmission out of it, but both cases were cracked. The Solex carburetors were broken - just about everything on the car was destroyed. I think I salvaged the brakes and one wheel. Even though one rear side glass was intact, it was tinted and I was never able to sell it. I bought it from the guy who was driving it in the wreck. He said there were four guys in the car and they all walked away.

My first new car. A Camaro Z28 as pictured below. 1st year production... what a mistake. I couldn't use the AC, cause it would over-heat, T-roofs leaked from day 1 and the battery would die because the belt would stretch!!! Also, the clutch bracket broke at the weld, off the firewall!!! I was jump starting the car with 20 day plates on it!!!

72 Ford Cortina... I guess it qualified as a hooptie but I had no end of issues with that car. I was in England with orders to March AFB. I put a battery in that POS and put a For Sale sign in the window. Some thugs stole, stripped it and left it in a field a week before I left. I was so glad it was stolen and so bummed when I got a call from the constables saying they found it. I met the bobby at the car not really knowing what to do. I couldn't even afford to have it towed to the local auto dismantlers as it they charged you 100 quid but I couldn't abandon it as it might come back on me through the military. In the end, the bobby said just to leave it. It wouldn't be reported abandon as it had been stolen. Cool cop, crappy car.

1990 BMW 325i. Bought new. 13 significant problems. Took 4 months to whittle them down. Eventually corresponded with president of BMW USA. West coast service rep responded to my engine idling like a wild beast trying to break its chains by showing me one that actually ran worse.

BMW will never get a penny from me again.

Oh, and that same car managed to be hit by other drivers 3 times in 12 months. Dumped it at a loss and never looked back.

First runner-up was a '78 930 that i bought after 15 minutes of contemplation. Cost $1K/mo. for the 13 months I owned it. But it was great as "badass garage sculpture."

Must have been a bad one... I've never done anything out of the ordinary maintenance-wise on mine. I love my Maxima!

My first new car, 2 years out of college. Road & Track and Car & Driver were raving about the new X body cars, tests looked good, supposed to handle well, and was affordable, and being on a tight budget (just married) thought it would be a good car. Wrong.

4 cylinder transverse with a 4 speed. It could get out of it's own way, but just barely. The first tranny lasted 12,000 miles.
Interesting, I had a Citation X-11 hatchback. It had the 2.8L V6. It was a great little car.

I did however have an Olds Omega with the 2.5L and an auto trans. It couldn't get out of it's own way. It was a very mediocre car. The trans blew a seal once from me manually shifting it. Otherwise, it was a fairly reliable car (other than the trans seal) until a kid pulled out in front of me and his insurance company replaced it.

Audi 100 LS. Can't remember the year. A real pig in a poke. Great deal, looked good. Schit itself before I could get it home. Crankshaft broke off at the flange where flywheel mounts. Total disaster on my wallet & mental health. Can't look at an Audi without flashbacks.

never had a bad car. all have been pretty reliable. DID have a '96 (I believe) Ford 1 ton dually with a Turbo Diesel engine. This was the engine before the Powerstroke. Sorriest engine ever built. Wound up putting 4 engines in the thing before practically giving it away. Went to a Chevy 1 ton and ended my problems.

Yes Eric, you'd better take it off of your bucket list.

2000 Jetta VR6 Automatic.

I sold a newer car that my wife and I had because the payment was a bit much for us to afford at the time.

I bought the Jetta thinking I was going to save some cash. Over the course of a year, I ended up losing more money in maintenance and payments, than hadI just kept the newer car. Changed the transmission, timing chain, water pump, belts, plugs, wires. nearly every single light bulb, and chased electrical issues for months. I did all the work myself saving me some money, but it was still a financial nightmare.

Never been so happy to see a car leave my driveway.

1999 Ford Ranger... Without a doubt THE worst POS I ever owned. It went through two trannies and a torque converter in four years. Every time I needed to use 4WD something was wrong with it. I could go on and on....
Crappy interior, couldn't tow anything, couldn't haul anything. Totally useless as a truck! I've heard the 4.0L weren't too bad as they came with a better transmission, but I will never find that out. Thank god Ford finally stopped making them!
