Those are very good Tim! I was thinking of the exact same three. I would also add the Ferrari 156.

When the aero stuff came to the fore looks went down the tubes. The Lotus 78/9 was an exception.

I liked the Ferrari 158 as well. Pretty much all of the 60's F1 cars looked good. Some of the 70's ones did as well.

I like the 70's wild cars like the 6 wheel Tyrell (sp?). So much more interesting to watch those races.

I always liked the cars from late 70's and early 80's, especially the Alan Jones Williams FW 07 in green and white Saudia/TAG #27. They had a purposeful look to them then. Now, not so much, but things do travel on. I was not able to provide a picture. Also the Andretti Lotus is a beauty.

Been that way for a long time. Actually, given the enormous G force when braking, having your butt planted in a bowl might help. Before it was all on the lap and sub belts. Ouch!

Less is more. Moto GP. That 90's Ferrari.

The new Indy car won't take long to get used to:

That Indy car is very tidy and easy on the eyes, thanks in part to Dan Wheldon. He'll never be forgotten; and I think this car looks safer with those side pods.

The 641 is beautiful. There were 3 maybe 4 seasons when F1 cars (in the modern era - many of the early cigar shaped cars are beautiful too, but in a different way) were very, very pretty and tidy. The McLaren MP4 1 and MP4 B were my personal faves of the era, so much ground effect that they could run some tracks without a front wing!

Then, technology went berserk, (hand-grenade qualifying motors, super-scary fuels, one lap qualifying tires, electronic suspension, etc, etc.)

The rulesmakers had no choice - the cars had to be controlled

It was a great time to be a fan....

The cars on the current grid are ludicrous. Abominations.

For me the ones that Henry posted are the nicest...

Also I would really like to see a return to manual gearboxes. This auto everything crap does not show who is the best driver but the best computer tech!

I think what F1 is really trying to do is finally prove that you CAN outrun ugly.

So far, no luck.

I am in favor of a formula limiting fuel flow rates and allowing whatever the engineers can come up with chassis and aero wise. That should keep the cars fast but also make them more efficient.

And really, at some point the cars can't go any faster as long as they keep the driver as the sole traction control/stability control system.
