Why would someone buy a turbo

A real Turbo Look Carrera has all the 930 performance parts (the different suspension pick-up points which means different chassis sheet metal) including the brakes. So it is not just looks. Yes it is slower due to the larger tires and heavier spoiler and such, but in the turns it has more potential.

A lot to be said for that. I remember being the passenger in a 427 Cobra, "holy sh$t!!!" isn't the half of it. I once had a 390 AMX that elicited that response too. But I'm over it now.
I seldom have a passenger in my Carrera or in my Speedster. I don't give a sh$t! what anyone else thinks. Yes, they look and yes, I like it but there isn't really anything like being alone on the road in a fun car. I've wanted to experience that with my own Porsche turbo and someday maybe I will. I don't mean to sound like an ad for Porsche, because the company has made it's share of product blunders, but the real Porsche experience doesn't have anything to do with anyone but the guy behind the wheel.

Let's not forget one little tiny detail. The upkeep on a Turbo is much more expensive than the NA.

Well, you are getting more suspension, brakes and tire.

I do understand what you're saying, but it's not all bad. The widebodies will lose a little top end on the narrow bodies because of the extra frontal area.

I agree, if I got a widebody, I'd want the turbo to go with it, but you do get a bit more car for the money.

A '87-'89 Turbo-look seems like the ideal base for a 3.6 varioram swap. I'd take one of those over a 930, I think.

Had I known better when I bought my car, I'd have spent the extra $5k or more on a turbo look 3.2.

You might want to think about that. Drive one of those that are tricked, say around 450hp. with the turbo coming on at 2500rpm and a lower pinion or a re-gear box is a heck of a lot of fun then a 3.6, I think. Still, you get a bit of the on, off switch but not so much as the older ones or stock.

U have answered your own question about why a guy would buy a 930 Turbo...they have small members that they can't get up so they want to compensate with a macho fast car.

I disagree. I own both, 930 and 911. I believe the turbo engines need to be rebuilt at lower miles than the 911 and you will need to replace the turbo but generally the money I spend is on wants not needs or maintenance. If you keep either car on the road on a regular basis, your maintenance in minimal. But then again, I do my own maintenance so I don't have some garage trying to charge more because it is a 930.

Why would you want a wide body over a turbo? I would love a wide body cab. If I am going to be driving on the hwy, the turbo is perfect but to just drive around town, stop light after stop light, the 911 is perfect. Just different cars for different tasks. Variety is good in my situation.

The wide body cars from the factory are made in real low numbers, people might want a car that is rare.
