Fontana drag strip closed due to noise

Good grief, the Fontana drag strip is closed for a noise complaint? Their neighbors are a NASCAR stadium, a rail way/yard, and a metal recycler. Who is complaining about noise? Must be some little old lady 10 miles away.

Too sadly typical. Race track builds out in the boonies. Housing gets built. Owners complain about the noise. Politicians want the votes, so close the track.
So it goes...

Same problem here in NJ with Englishtown/Raceway park. Track has been here since 1965. out int e middle of nowhere. Abouit 20 yrs ago they started putting up all these Mc mansions. Then the homeowners started beotching about the noise. Wanted it shut down.
The track was there before half of them were even born. Fortunately the track is still open.

Well then these complainers need to be red-tagged when any code is broken and their grass is 1 cm too long or dog crap smell in their yard drifts.

Same situation around the Chicago area and nothing surprises me. The Ohare expansion... just bulldoze down neighborhoods! True. Don't like the noise? Here's some money. Done.

On the opposite of the spectrum, former mayor Daley wanted the neat lakefront Meigs Airport gone and with complete disregard to the law, he had the strip bulldozed in the middle of the night!

Here's another sad case. I know of a fine gentleman who's owned a respectable import repair shop, formerly a gas station which probably goes back 40 to 50 years. Its located in the country suburbia near an exit from a major highway. So along comes a newer built neighborhood in a township (who by the way proclaims an adopted modified name from a considered upscale adjacent town of Barrington). Well, these morons who reside there banded together and wanted this independent garage gone because the lights at night bothered them. Lawsuits dragged on for years. Complete idiots and the major highway runs right near them anyways.

Fontucky is a very strange place.
Part of it is an on-going episode of COPS complete with wife-beaters, used needles, and people living in tents in the front yard.

The rest is 10 year old McMansions built on postage stamp lots so close together you need skinny trash cans.
The owners typically commute two hours each way to work, and the only time they see their homes in the day light is on weekends.
Our local PCA used to hold AX's at fontana airport because it was the only place we could find at the time. Some very interesting locals would show up to watch. Very interesting. We had to take turns watchnig our stuff in the pits.

Last time I was there for a PCA/POC meet the drags were running. The big strip is out back by the railroad. Inside the bowl we could hear anything big. It's a full 1/4 mi. track. The houses are somewhat protected from noise within the roval but not the drags. The houses are about a half mile N of the track. And they run every weekend for show and go.

They have been having issues with the noise deal for most of 2011 and were shut down for awhile last year. What happened is the court nullified a county agreement regarding increased noise levels. And for some reason a sound wall to be constructed was put on hold. Something about the environmental impact report.

To me this is a prime example of poor management, poor negotiating and an over zealous government that can be manipulated by a bunch of people. To wit, here's who challenged the ruling:

Not to mention a distinctly odoriferous meat-packing plant! Mmmmm.

SCCA's Cal Club runs their a/x program on the west parking lot. I hope they are not next. Normally they only have a few really loud cars. I remember an unmuffled Rx7 being sent home.

Effing NIMBYs.
