If one finds a bad taste in his mouth and wants to tell why he is all done, fine with me. A little insight might be gained. Or not.

As someone said not too long ago, the OT forum has jumped the shark. I have found that most forums can be mean at times, funny at times, stupid a lot of the time and a few other things; nothing heavy. I come here to sometimes be informed (news), sometimes be entertained and always to entertain myself. That's the most important part.

If I had to walk a block to see the forums, I would never see them unless I was going that way already. And no one really cares whether Mike or Milt are here or not.

If you start a thread saying "bye" it usually means you need some support from your homies to stay. Nothing wrong with that. We all get a little twisted now and then.

I don't understand how anyone can take anything so seriously given the nature of talk forums in general and specifically an off-topic forum.

Looks like he's been here for quite a while - you'd think he'd understand there are those "keyboard assassins" who have nothing to lose by stirring the pot.

So the misunderstanding was whether his account of the incident was factual or just a made-up story to further fuel his need to voice his racism...do I have it right?

I think the misunderstanding could be cleared up very quickly by posting a link to the story - would it not?

Wouldn't stop the keyboard assassins in their continued quest for anarchy but at least it would lend credibility to the account.

I have no dog in the fight - just offering my view from the sidelines....

It's not so much a misunderstanding as a reasonable reaction by most of the posters to how he portrayed the incident. He sounded like an old time southern sherrif.

Mike,

I have no idea what happened or what thread it happened in. I don't really even care either, just like 90% of the threads started in OT (100% in PARF, which is why I don't go there)...I just don't care.

All I can say is that I am sorry you are leaving...I am sorry a few individuals have caused this departure...I am sorry Pelican is losing one of the good one's.

I wish you luck and hope we cross paths sometime in the future!

Why does Wayne tolerate such bad behavior in PARF?

It's always the same cast of characters (on both side of the aisle) spewing insults and immature attacks.

What is it about PARF makes this behavior tolerated there when it would not be tolerated anywhere else on PP?

Lubey - If you are really leaving because of the thread regarding the young man's death - without ever posting the rest of the story, despite many of the rational posters asking for it, well....

When a thread moves to PARF, I don't follow it. It turns to idiocy there, 99% of the time. No matter what it is about. You could post about your own son's death, and PARF would go stupid on it.

There are really a lot of asswipes here. The guy's neighbor died, and you react like he's a mouthy hooker in a hollywood mob movie. I am amazed at how opinionated and childish the discussion has gotten.

It's tolerated there because it was created for that purpose. PARF keeps the *****-slinging in one place, where it can't hurt those that choose to avoid it, and allows the rest of the board to remain a friendly and functional place.

PARF can get hot and heavy at times but I think (I hope!) at the end of the day, everyone that gets involved there knows that what happens in PARF, stays in PARF. It can be fun, and it can be infuriating, but once we've wandered back to the 911 Technical Forum (or where ever else) we're all friends again. Doug2.2S and I have been playing cat and mouse for weeks now but if he needed help with his 911 and I held the answer, I'd be there for him... and I'd hope that he'd be there for me too.

As for the original post, I didn't get involved in the thread but read it all the way through. Lubie was obviously very hurt by the occurrence, regardless of the specifics of the situation, and that should have been respected. If the story was spun in his favour, so be it, but what really mattered was that he was shouldering a personal loss and was looking for consoling. It's a shame it got PARF'd, it really didn't belong there.

... or was it the way that other posters pointed out his racial and socio-economic inferences that got it PARF'd?

It really doesn't matter now, it's over.

The members of this board are always supportive of other members' personal losses, whether they be animal or human, family member or friend. 100% of the time.

Including when Lubemaster posted a thread about his young neighbor dying in a car accident. The problem occurred when he posted a follow-up thread telling a story of the neighbor/accident victim being beat-up at a McDonald's restaurant shortly before the fatal accident. He told a story of a racially motivated hate crime perpetrated on the kid by a pack of black people and his desire to go to the neighborhood where it happened, (in the "dark part of town"), and seek vengeance.

The "facts" of the story were highly suspect and when questioned about the discrepancy between news accounts and his version, he got defensive and refused to provide any explanation. Even wrote of how he'd love to beat me for challenging the story. Fk this guy.

It has exactly nothing to do with the original story about the tragic death of his young neighbor. That thread did not sufficiently quench his insatiable need for attention on this board, so he started another one with some ugly racial schit in it.

That's what this is about. Not the tragedy of a young person dying.

Pretty sure I'm one of the people Mike's pissed at.

That's unfortunate.

I like Mike, I think he's a good guy.

We live down the road from each other.

Bump into him at Walmart, kids soccer games etc...

He's always upbeat, happy to see us, gives my wife a hug.

I have no doubt the death of his neighbor was difficult for him.

Mike posted about it twice.

The second post was the catalyst for this thread.

The point of it was obvious but I gave it a pass.

The more I learned about that night the less it passed my personal sniff test.

Regardless of the circumstances it is still a tragedy for all.

No parent should ever bury their child.

Reality check.

OP posts tragic newsstory about accidental death of neighbours son. Then OP puts racially motivated spin on story, based on very thin evidence and refuses to elaborate.

Others here question the reasons for the spin and the thin evidence provided.

OP throws hissy fit, and announces he won't play in the PPOT sandbox any more.

The world has not ended. It's just another day in PPOT.

Next...

People handle death in their own way.... not to be judge by the people not involved... disclaimer: haven't read the story, will do that when can, i hate it when people can't get along ... it is what it is
